Amla goes for 6
SA 30 for 3 off 13 overs
Roland-Jones with all three wickets so far.
TRJ must be on something…he is on fire
4 wickets down 47 runs
SA now 47/4 as Toblerone has snaffled de Kock (I enjoyed typing that) to go with his other three! England’s total looking better by the minute here.
And it’s 47/5 as Anderson gets Faf du Plessis. Bloody hell.
Some official with the SA team walking out to the umpires with a white flag…they think it is all over
Roland Jones is on 4 for 20 from 36 balls
What a marvellous evening to be on a mission to get slightly pickled.
With a bunch of South Africans…
Come on England…bring on Feddie Trueman…he’ll knock em over
It is now
51 -6 Morris goes
Now getting it’s only the 1st innings… .
61 - 7 Stokes gets Maharaj for 5
81-7. Englandesque like collapse.
114- 8 Broad gets Rabada for 30
1 wicket left if Philander doesn’t get back from the hospital
SA 126 -8 at close of play
Philander can bat tomorrow if he is fit. so still 2 wickets to get and 28 runs required to avoid the follow on.
It’s not often that ou can post 350-odd in the first innings of a test and have a chance to enforce the follow-on, but I can certainly see that hapening here. SA may just get the runs they need, though with only two wickets in hand I wouldn’t fancy their chances, even though it’s only 28 runs.
So, assuming they’re all done for less than 154, should Root enforce it, or should he bat them out of the match for the rest of tomorrow and have a couple of days to knock them over? Personally, I’d bung them in again - our bowlers will still be fresh, it will be disspiriting for them, and there’s a good chance that there’ll be interruptions and lost time over the next three days. We’ll probably have to bat again, but it’s hard to see anything other than a very straightforward total. On the other side, batting last could be tricky, but I just don’t think we’ll be having to score enough runs for that to be an issue.
Thoughts?
Love it. They’re miles behind in this match already and they know it.
Definitely make them bat again if poss.
Final comment from the Yarpies…
Meh fuck the cricket
Wait until the rugby…
Very impressive debut from Toby Roland-Jones. An interesting factoid for us Sotonians, his uncle is Steve Moran. Quite fitting i suppose that he starred yesterday alongside a chap called Stokes!
