70m for VVD

For the past week or so, Twitter especially had been full of Liverpool fans saying that VVD was theirs for £50m and all that was holding things up was the wages. They were waxing lyrical on how good a player he is and it’s exactly what Klopp needs to make Liverpool a force etc etc.

Its being reported that we’ve now set the asking price at £70m - a very fair price I think considering his importance to us and the fact he’s an absolute diamond of a player.

The turnaround on Twitter is amazing. Suddenly the Liverpool fans think that Matip is going to come good and why would Klopp want to spend so much money on someone who is injury prone. Nob heads… They really have no clue how good the lad is.

I don’t want VVD to go but, £70m is a hell of a lot of money. Perhaps he is going to stay and we’re doing our best to scare everyone off.

The ludicrous money that they, Chelsea and Man City have paid out on Carroll, Benteke, Stones, Sterling etc, has set the price.

And they are all idiots - VVD was the most public and drawn out transfer we have ever done.

All of them could have had him when we did, none of them recognised his potential.

So bollocks to them - we’ll take £65m for cash.

Keep him for another season and sell him to Barca or Real for £100m.

Sorted.

£70m sounds like a fkn lot of money. Ain’t Kat selling the whole club for £190m or something?

I’d cave a long way before that. I’d cave prob at £50m, or maybe even less, if I can get a cut. Hopefully Les is less greed/more balls than me!

Anyone know what percentage Celtic get? This is why we should have more stadium expansion threads and keep MLG near.

£50m - £70m - £100m

It can buy a lot if you spend it wisely…if not it’s like pissing it down the drain. I say keep for at least another season…they’ll all be even more desperate for him after another year.

Use what we have to reinforce failing areas from last season by selling the inconsistant. Replace with quality young players with proven scoring ablity in attack and midfield.

Everton didn’t have Europe last season…they do next…they will struggle to repeat last season.

Play hardball. Refuse all bids and then start a bidding war next season, starting at £100m. Anything other than would be weak and we need strong and stable right now.

This article claims it is a done deal to City. I’m actually a little surprised how definitive the language used is.

It’s probably bollox but if it is true, at least it ain’t the scousers.

Would love to sell to City 1) because 70mn is a good deal and 2) because itll piss the rest of the big 6 right off

Seems likes papbro’s speculation, correct or not, looks right in hindsight.

I remember telling a couple of you his theory, that we’d already accepted a bid north of 50m, he was much fitter than was being reported, and that he’d never play for Saints again.

Spot on papbro.

I’ll wait to be dissapointed. Until then I’m blindly optomistic and naive as fk.

Obviously prefer City if he does go but I have a feeling Cedric and Bertrand are off so reserve the right to a proper tantrum if all three go.

I personally think he’ll stay another year as a show of loyalty for the half a seasons medical treatment and his 6 year contract.

I’m also convinced that good friday is the easter bunnys birthday and believe in the tooth fairy

Indeed, why quadruple your wages to become the most expensive defender in the world, play Champions League football and enhance your international career, when you could be listening to your manager getting booed during a 0-0 EFL cup tie against Grimsby.

I think his loyalty to us will come first, as it does with most Dutchmen.

I read it is 15% of the profit i.e. 70 -13.5 = 56.5×15% = £8.4 million.

Celtic will be able to buy 8 more wonder kids with that which we can poach in 4 or 5 years before selling to Liverpool. This seems a good deal around except I like to see VVD play for us rather than someone else. :frowning:

If it is in the Mirror it must be bollox. There are story’s elsewhere that he has been talking to Klopp and impressed by his plans.

They can not all be right.I can not see Liverpool paying 50 let alone 70.

Time will tell but I am hoping that the club are right when they say they don’t need to sell. Some are the players are coming out and saying the same and he does not appear to be agitating for a move.

I see on the “dark side” they have their usual silly season “Make A Statement Now” thread going. Poor little “I want it now” kids are stamping their feet because Les hasn’t personally text/twittered/Facebooked/Emailed them on what’s going on with Virgil. :lou_lol:

STFU you whining little bitches and grow a pair. :lou_facepalm_2:

In fairness 80% of the posts on that thread say exactly that.
