However Puel seemed to be praising Long and Rodriguez after yesterday’s game, yes J-Rod played the 90 minutes but he is still a shadow of his former self.
Do we gamble on Long finding his scoring boots (as he did last season and saved our season), J-Rod finding his mojo and promoting some yoof or do we go big and buy a striker that can find the back of the net?
Suggestions as to players we could buy please and lets not descend into a Barry “football is shite” fest.
When I manage Southampton, I like to have 3 first team strikers. If my best one is get injured, I don’t panic like a pussy, I just play my second choice striker. If he is having problem, I play my third choice striker. If he is suspended or whatever or bad form, I give a chance to the Yoof.
Then at end of Season, if I am not happy with how my strikers is done, I sell the worst one and buy an upgrade. That is what I do, and I have won Champions League multiple times srs.

What I’d like to see is a striker who, when left one-on-one with a defender, might actually have the ability to (shock horror), run past him.
Sturridge sounds like a good option on paper, but I do worry that he’d stroll in with a bit of a billy-big-bollocks attitude. He seems to be one of those players who’s bought into the idea that the less effort you put in, the cooler you are. I could be wrong though, and he’d make a welcome change from Shane ‘Try Hard’ Long (or perhaps get the best out of him, who knows?).

Hope im wrong but with Simms, Jrod, long, boufal, tadic and Redmond plus being out of Europe, Puel does not have any bargining power with the club in mid table. His only target now is to get back in Europe next year and make do with what you have

I had Austin in my fant football team cause I am loyal. Anyway had to ditch the crocked bitch and looked at other teams. Problem is, no-one has strikers anymore except WBA. It seems to be a 90’s or early 00’s thing. Now a days, false 9 is the way to go. I think we should just play someone (don’t mind who) as false 9 and then concentrate all training efforts on teaching JWP to hit a moving ball.

The problem with Jrod and shlong is that if you are going to ignore the obvious false 9 system and be a football Luddite, is you need one striker to be really big and good at headers and the other one to be small and good at finishing and getting on the end of flick ons and knock downs and to know when big guy will do a flick on and when he will do a knock on. Jrods + Shlong are neither big nor good at finishing or knowing about knock ons V flick ons. This is why we need false 9.
