Amazon will show 20 Premier League matches a season for three years from 2019, after winning one of the final two broadcast packages.

The online streaming service has won the rights to show every game from the first round of midweek games in December and all 10 games on Boxing Day as part of the three-year deal.

The matches will be available free to Amazon Prime’s UK members.

Oh well, I have Amazon Prime so that’s OK but I bet they soon start charging.

The all 10 games on Boxing Day piques my interest as all 10 games are very rarely played on Boxing day!

Also does this mean no winter break for 3 years.

Yay, a small chance of seeing Saints on the telly box without having to pay* Now TV , via a borrowed BT login or on a dodgy stream.

It’ll be all manure, liverhampton, Arse, Citeh and Spuds most likely

* Ok, I pay for Prime already

Sky and BT are stretched to breaking point and can’t compete with companies like Amazon. The only thing stopping them is the existing infrastructure … deals with pubs/venues and the fact it’s limited to the UK. Their model assumes that people will pay a big monthly fee or go to the pub and watch content.

The rights are way overpriced at the moment, Sky and BT justify it as a way of driving their broadband in the UK. It’s not sustainable. Amazon can afford to swallow huge losses just to get people to sign up to their Prime accounts. which is their ultimate goal.

Amazon have totally different sites based on your country @saintbristol .

Mine is 90% Bollywood stuff even when I logged in in UK.

They won’t show games to anyone outside UK so it does nothing to their global business.

It is part of their plan to attack local providers though.

The interesting part will come when the global rights next come up. They may well take on Qatar and Bein Sports who broadcast to a huge number of regions directly or as service provider.

Basically you lot will be paying to put BT & Sky out of business…

Until Comcast or Disney/ESPN get into the game

Interesting overview of the deal
