Anyone fancy a kick-about

…in the new year?

I’m putting together a couple of 5-a-side teams for a one off game in mid-January. It’ll be in the Eastleigh / Southampton area and I’ve got a couple of places to fill.

Standard and experience is very mixed and on average I’m guessing we’ll be pretty average.

We’re a bunch of late 30s, late 40s and mid-50s blokes (and one female).

After we see who can still walk the next day, we’ll probably enter a team into a local 5-a-side league.

There will be beer!

No time wasters pls.

Maybe…

Hell yes. Taken a sabbatical from my league team and could do with some playing time. I’m about 4 months out but when fit I run. A lot.

Well, this week we’ve had Lou’s fire thread, now Bletch is arranging some footie; all we need now is someone to organise some greyhound racing on the beach.

Excellent, ant.

Maybe excellent, Raleighboy.

ant, can I just check the you read the bit about there being a football match, and didn’t just skip straight to the part about beer?

Raleighboy, why so coy? What are the factors that will make you a yes or a no?

Unfortunately I am unfit, overweight, with fucked knees and an agressive on the field personna that involved multiple sendings off - think ‘Benson’ physique crossed with the ‘Whacko’s’ attitude… so the fact I live 450miles North is probably a good thing?

(Sorry Bletch, is this timewasting?)

He’s not sure if his 80’s shorts are appropriate, or if this involve will ridicule or even a pasting - Here he is ready for his last match

No problem, Gay: Bletch can do your fetching and carrying; you can do fancy flicks and headers.

I’m in.

But when you play one or two games a week you’re not sure whether you’ll be walking at any given time.

And those shorts are way too long, I favour the 1980 ones that physically hurt the genitals - it gives you an edge that only pain can do.

That’s right Halo, I am Deschamps’ water carrier to Gay’s Cantona brilliance.

The only bit that delineates you from me there is the 450 miles north.

I play 11-a-side on a Monday night and my knees, through the medium of pain, are making it clear that I need to run less.

That, and the fact that they now bend backwards like a flamingo’s…

If this old and knackered frame is indeed a welcome participant, then I suggest you aquire a mannekin and dress it appropriately and stick it in midfield… given my mobility in this area, I suggest that any difference between this and the real me, will be of little significance or consequence. However, it may become evident that it is indeed only a ‘fake’ when back in the pub.

Excellent.

I’ll share more details once I’ve got them.

As I said the standard will be pretty mixed so if you’re walking you’ll likely be flying down the ‘wing’ in relation to the ‘defenders’.

Funny that Bletch because I picture you more Terry Hurlock.

Zimmerframe footie. This could be quite a spectacle! :lou_wink_2:

Well played, sir. Nah - I can’t think of anywhere in Eastleigh that serves decent beer anyway.
