Barcelona - Are We Becoming Immune To Terrorism?

When Paris was hit, you couldnt move on FB without seeing the tricolour, we were Paris and stood with them. Gradually, we seem to becoming more used to these attrocities. I dont see any Spanish flags on FB, no singing of the Spanish national anthem. Yes it is still sickening, but these events seem to come and go now without the same level of shock. Perhaps that is not so bad though? Maybe, if these asshats start to realise that killing innocent people does not further their aims or take their agenda forward, they will eventually realise it is a waste of time and stop.

Maybe people are realising what an empty, pointless gesture changing their profile pic is?

How can you destroy a religious ideology when there is nothing that they want other than an Islamic World?

Itā€™s here to stay and no foreign policy will change that, itā€™s exported hatred via the internet.

Probably. There is nothing we can do apart from carry on with our lives and dont let the extremists win. At the time it did feel like making a stand and making a show of defiance. But as you say, it changed nothing and these twats carry on all the same.

I got called out for not changing my FB profile pic when the French thing happened and then got all sorts of abuse when I explained that it was fuck all to do with me or what I wish to share with the people I was friends with.

Subsequently my friends list is a lot lighter.

Once again you have completely ignored the point of the OP and gone off on your own agenda. At least make the effort to stay on track occasionally cant you? Iā€™ll spell it out for you. Have we become immune to terrorism?

Barry is just a sad cretin who cant help himself force his WUM agenda on every thread. He knows which buttons to press because we have a reasonable educated and generally liberal and compassionate bunch on hereā€¦he likes to stir the hornets nest to get our reactionā€¦ its an odd way to pleasure himself, everyone else would just have a wank and avoid annoying peopleā€¦ ā€¦easy comeā€¦ easy ā€¦

I dont think we have become immune, but when things happend as frequently as they do, it is less shocking so our response is less dramaticā€¦ I find it very difficult to ndersatnd how we have a world in which there must be enough misery and disaffection for young people to go to such extremesā€¦ back in the 50s and 60s, there was no such radicalisation towards the westā€¦ Beruit was a holiday destination ā€¦ how did it come to this? I cant help but feel the west has played a rather large part in what this world has becomeā€¦

Iā€™m in my new house. I got no telly or broadband and my phone data ran out. So I missed lots of news other than what I heard in the car. I knew about the Barcelona attack but only found out about the second today. My brothersays there was an attack in Russia but I didnā€™t see such news. Heā€™s the sort of person who would make it up. Itā€™s strange being so disconnected, even just for two days but also means you miss all the (depressing) news and actually feel a bit happier.

Hey, mate. you shoudnā€™t worry. Statiscally youā€™re more likely to be killed on the motorway, or crossing the road

Or by Sharks ā€¦ Then worry :slight_frown:

But youā€™d be deadā€¦

The Spanish national anthem doesnā€™t have any words/lyrics :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Yes.

Where was Saudi Arabia, there is your answer, now look it up.

Is that like Carpetworld or Leisureworld? If so, prepare to be disappointed.

Far from being actual ā€œworldsā€, theyā€™re just retail units operating out of industrial type buildings.

Now Weaveworld, thereā€™s a world this so called Carpetworld could learn from.

Just read the BBC article about the gas cyclinders accumulated by the ā€˜cellā€™- it shows the photos of the suspects. just boys really, whole life ahead of them who in another time, another place would be out with girls/boys having fun and being stupid. When we see the understandable outrage that follows such hideous crimes, I do have to ask, what is the hook? how do those with dark political motives (its not religeous) convince young people to plan and execute such monstrous acts? I am at a loss, because these young people could be so much more than lethal tools for evil old men with some massive chips on their shoulders and warped political vision.

Its so easy to dismiss with 'agressve 'rhetoric, but if we really want to end this, it wont be through bombing the fuck out of them or closing bordersā€¦ it will be through first trying to fucking understand why they are doing this, what caused itā€¦ and then thinking about how we find a solutionā€¦ because years of ā€˜no stone unturnedā€™ has got us nowhereā€¦

What are the people who do this saying, what drives them? Politics? I doubt it, religious ideology? Most probably, alienation from Western society? Again probably but weā€™ve done the compatibility with Western culture and no one wants to front up to that do they?

ā€¦Go back 40-50 years and this was not happeningā€¦ the ideolgy was the same, just now using different interpretation of certain phrases to justify themselvesā€¦ religeous ideology is not responsible is not responsible, its just the convenient way tohook dissaffected youth to a wider causeā€¦ without really understanding,we cant move forward

It wasnā€™t no but the World was a different place.
