That looks interesting. Even if we sell him on to someone else, and they sell him onto a Portuguese club, we have to pay £15 million. I’m sure that Saints would just pass that liability on in any contract they signed inside the protection period. Long and short of it, he’s not going back to Portugal for a few years.
As a bonus, leaks from Dušan Tadić’s contract at FC Twente revealed some odd salary deductions (and benefits) there.
Sounds like one particular agency has been targeted. According to the Dutch press these leaks have shed light on a few rather dodgy dealings and caused Twente’s chairman Aldo van der Laan to stand down.
Seems inhumane to have such control over his life. What if he wants to go back to Portugal for personal reasons? We’d effectively be stopping him from being able to work.
He can, just not to those clubs. Sporting would still be on the table too of course.
I imagine this could be argued in a court in terms of ‘freedom to work’ but at the same time Cedric and his representative must have been happy enough with those terms in order to sign.
Certainly an eye-opener though. Just imagine some of the crazy stunts that must be pulled in order to get deals over the line…
As many of the less reactionary people said every summer, these deals are incredibly fucking complex.
The idea that it’s easy to just get them done, or people are sat with their fingers up there arse because we haven’t signed 17 players by July 1st are utter morons.
There’s huge sums of money, with a lot of people involved all wanting their slice. It wouldn’t surprise me if for every completed deal there are 5-10 that fall through.
