Champions Trophy 2017

Well, it’s starting soon and England are one of the favourites to win it.

Given our recent form against SA I’d rate it as very 50/50.

Commentators were saying the Roy is likely to start against Bangladesh on Thursday as it’s his home ground, given his recent form I would drop him.

No room for sentiment if the E(&W)CB want to win this.

England look to have a decent squad and, barring any brain farts like yesterday’s, should be competitive.

Bring it on.

I flew overnight from here to LHR with a customer. (Corporate wankers)

Legged it to The Oval to watch the last final vs West Indies when we were nailed on to win last time the CT was in England.

We lost.

We got pissed and flew back here the next morning.

What was the ROI? I needed to keep my then Gold Card of course.

Whats the format then @btripz is it leagues and then knockout or straight knockout comp?

Good batting pitch at the Oval today, well according to the commentators it is, however Bangladesh haven’t really taken advantage of this.

30-0 off of 9 overs with Moen dropping a dolly of a catch.

Stokes had one stump to aim at earlier too but missed by a couple of inches with the Bangladeshi batsman well out.

Cock.

Well it’ll give ubermod something to do.

If Jake Ball is the answer then I guess so is Jezza, just not seen it myself to date. Mind you not seeing anything as my telly has blown up and is off for repair.

Quiet day at work doing proposals so mobdro time I think

Where the hell is Woakes?

The fact Chris Woakes has walked off after two overs is a real concern. Liam Plunkett is also off the pitch. I don’t know why that is, but if they are two bowlers down so early in the tournament that is a real concern.

16 off of Ball’s last over

52-0 off of 11

Stokes in his first over makes the break through - of course he does.

56-1 off 12

Anddd we have a wicket, 56-1

Soumya Sarkar holing out to Bairstow in the deep. Stokes bowling…

Plunkett back on and bowling.

Brendan: “What is the most likely use in cricket for covfefe? I’m thinking a delicate dabbed cut shot past the wicketkeeper.” To me, covfefe already feels like it’s gone out of fashion. The game moves so fast these days…

Ah ESPN ain’t no TMS but it has its moments.

Could do with some control or wicket taking threat. Time for a leg spinner.

Oh

So what happened to the wake upcall from South Africa on Monday then?

Like their alarm clock they hit the snooze button, turned over and went back to sleep!!

Very handily placed now 150 up for only 2 wickets.

22 overs to go, Par score is around 280 on that pitch ESPN tell me, they could go way beyond that.

Oh shit

Chris Woakes’ participation in the remainder of England’s Champions Trophy campaign could be in doubt, after he picked up a side strain during the tournament opener against Bangladesh at The Oval.

Woakes had come into the match nursing a tight quad that led to his omission from the final two matches of England’s recent ODI series against South Africa, but he looked in fine fettle as he opened the campaign with a maiden to Bangladesh’s Tamim Iqbal.

However, he bowled just one more over in his spell before leaving the field for treatment, and a statement from the ECB later confirmed that he was being assessed for a left side strain.

Though it is too early to say how the injury will impact on Woakes’ involvement either in the remainder of this match, or England’s subsequent group games against New Zealand on June 6 and Australia on June 10, side strains are notoriously difficult injuries for fast bowlers to shake off.

Writing on Twitter, the former England fast bowler, Darren Gough, reckoned it could take between four and six weeks for a full recovery, especially if he has damaged his intercostal muscles. Were that the case, the injury would leave Woakes in some doubt for the start of England’s Test series against South Africa as well, which gets underway at Lord’s on July 6.

Woakes’ injury was the latest in a series of issues undermining England’s previously settled Champions Trophy squad. Ben Stokes came into the match nursing a knee injury that limited his ability to bowl in the South Africa series, and England’s selection of Jake Ball ahead of the legspinner Adil Rashid, their leading ODI wicket-taker since the 2015 World Cup, may have been a precautionary measure.

160-2 off of 30 overs, generally double the 30 over score to see what they will get and we will be chasing 320+.
