Congratulations Andy Murray

With Euro 2016 and the tour going on I did not start a tennis thread and Winbledon 2016.

Just wanted to say congratulations to Andy Murray. I watched the quarter final, semi and final and he was pretty much spot on his game. When he won today a lot of emotion came out, but boy it was good to see the Brit win!

And Heather Watson won in the Mixed Doubles with Henri Kontinen.

I have to be honest I turned off, not a fan of doubles, but yes congratulations indeed.

I’m going to shamelessly start working towards the Name Dropper badge, but Andy lives near to me - never see him or his missus doing the weekly big shop though. Mind you John Terry also lives nearby and his mum got done a while back for shoplifting in the local Tesco super store…Not quite Stella Street though.

My one big hope for Stella Street is that it has been watched by all it portrays.

Apart from Mrs Huggins, who definitely doesn’t need the extra bother.

I just cant warm to Andy, or his wife or his omnipresent mother. But it was a big achiement and he is British (at the moment) so well done to him. But please dont give him the sports personality award again. There is a clue in the title. Personality. He doesnt have one.

Now there’s a unique thing.

A Goatboy post without sexual innuendo.

Or, is it?

I like his missus tbf, I like her hair, it always looks v.soft. When I see her lovely hair it makes me want to stroke it. I would also like to stroke her lovely, soft hair one day too.

Also, Simo, isn’t it a little churlish to only offer Murray a single congratulation in the thread title?

Don’t know what you are on about Gov? :lou_wink_2:

I used to be like you as regards Murray but I now realise I’ve done him a disservice, he has wit it’s just very dry. I don’t know how much tennis you watch SoG but some of his post-match interviews are funny. It’s his voice and lack of smiling I think that puts people off.

As for his mum she’s done a termendous amount for British tennis so I think she’s allowed to bask in her son’s glory…

He is a very funny man. I love the dry sense of humour for sure. He is pretty good at tennis as well.

I see Lendl even managed to crack a small smile at one of Andy’s quips yesterday…

Nah, that was just wind! :lou_wink:

I dont watch a huge amount of tennis but did see Murray crack a joke once! I dont doubt that Mrs Murray has done a lot of good work and that Andy is a really gifted player, but there are some people I can watch all day and I just dont enjoy watching Murray or the close ups of his family. Its the same with Ronaldo. Obviosuly a very gifted sportsman but I just hate watching him and I know it is irrational but I want him to fail. So it was with great delight that I sat and watched Portugal win the final without him (even though he clearly took over as head coach from the sidelines).

I am not called Sadoldgit for nothing!! :lou_sunglasses:

Worth resurrecting.

World number 1. Albeit in slightly fortuitous circumstances today - there’s no doubt it’s deserved.

Fantastic news. He has improved and come on so much over the last few years. Just that extra mile.

Not very knowledgeable about tennis but World number 1 doesn’t really mean anything, does it ?

Djokovic still normally beats him fairly comfortably.

Yeah, this is really exciting news…

Well, it does mean he’s been consistently the best player in the world for the last year or so. Other than that it’s pretty meaningless.
