I’ve been having a Calexico morning pior to their Brighton gig next Tuesday. This is so far from The Clash original it hardly qualifies are a cover…

My 2 guilty secrets in one cover version
A-ha - massively underrated in my opinion. Some excellent musicianship over many years and brave and bold lyrically and musically. Scoundrel Days was essentially a concept album about a guy who kills his missus nd goes on the run - not the teenybop band they often get mistaken for
Coldplay - used to be very good indeed, not so much in later years
So, having mentioned them elsewhere earlier I’ve been on a bit of a Crystal Castles kick at my desk today.
Discovered that this track is actually a cover - not just a cover of themselves with Robert Smith’s vocals as an added extra (they did 2 versions), but a proper actual cover from way back when.
…and the original (it is pretty different)
Stumbled on this during a melancholic fumble through Counting Crows on YouTube.
Love this version. Can’t stop playing it. (Beware the video restarts and goes silent halfway through)
Fuck it, whilst I am at it.
