Loved much of his early music and heroes in one of my favourite all time records. Thought some of his stuff was a bit meh but at least he tried many different things. Was never really fussed about seeing him but did catch his headline set at Glastonbury in 2000 and he was awesome. True rock legend.

Just shocked. Bought Dark Star on pre-order, arrived on Friday and haven’t had time to listen to it all the way through yet.
A huge influence on the music and culture of our time…a very special artist in every sense of the word, RIP David.

A unique talent, for me the greatest artist of the 20th century.
Bowie’s music and images will continue to have a massive influence on music and art for decades to come.
Living through the incredible run of albums between 1969 and 1983 was an exciting time to listen to music.
What a sad day.

Sad news, to be honest I have not heard a lot of his stuff but what I have heard I’ve liked. Hi new album was getting great critical reviews.
Do think he went off the page a bit in the last 80s and onwards…
I don’t think you’ll find Black Star in the shops for a while but I put a YouTube link to the whole album in the “What Are You Listening To” thread last week.

Amazing and unique. A giant of a musical and cultural talent.
Can’t profess to be a massive fan of his work but there are areas I’ve certainly enjoyed. Had the Tin machine album, Ziggy and Heroes.

Superb and one of my favourites. loved most of his stuff, simply wasn’t scared to try anything, RIP thin white Duke.
Always remember him looking SO pissed off in the back of a limo being driven into the Guildhall in '73.
Great concert though.

Such a shock tbh. That the news was kept so quiet while he recorded and only a few days ago had seen the start of a buzz around his new album.
Such diversity in his music as he kept re-inventing himself that he could find fans in all genres.
I am blessed that I saw him in the ;80’s at Wembley, and again, in a much more relaxed cameo at the Prince’s Trust in '86. His music, his acting, his Charity Work, and from the excellent piece on Sky News just now, an all round Human being.
What a legacy he has left behind though

Has always been one of my Mum’s favourites, so was a permanent feature of our house. Especially when it was just me and her.
Really gutted about the news. Shock factor seems to be just doubled with him having put out (such a good) album just last week.

Just put Heroes on full volume, reminds me of Liveaid.
I was brought up on Rock’n’roll Suicide, Diamond Dogs, Drive in Saturday, Life on Mars, Jean Genie - what an amazing legacy.
We won’t see an artist of that calibre again for a while.
(perhaps we need to apologise to the handful of people who may have never liked any of his output and can’t get the fuss, sorry people, this is his day)
