Eighties action films

oh, and Topgun doesn’t make it into the top 50 action films of the month it was released, let alone the decade. Piece of shit film from another poison dwarf.

This is like an ill-planned Bletch thread - no structure, no direction, it’s all gone to shit.

And no up-votes for witty repartee either, fuckers.

The first Lethal weapon before they turned it into a laurel and hardy franchise. Also Die Hard, Alan Rickman playing arguably one of the finest ‘baddies’ to date.

Also Roadhouse crept in by a year. One of Bletches all time favourites and an inspiration to him in so many sartorial ways. I always thought he’d be bigger.

Predator edges it for me, with Terminator and Aliens close behind. If Mad Max had been a year later or Total Recall a year earlier I might have really struggled with this one. Apparently Shane Black who played Hawkins in Predator is in the process of writing the next Predator film, be interesting to see what he does with it.

That was fucking horrible goat

It’s another film that just ages really well. Even the lo-res thermo imaging can be explained away as “it’s Predator tech, innit?”

They could have, and should have, made a lot more of these. I’ve seen plenty of the Dark Horse comic book treatment - they tend to have a lot more fun with the concept. I remember seeing a run which involved Predators plonking themselves in the middle of the American Civil War.

The only film featuring a Predator I haven’t watched is AvP2. I hear it’s bad. I can’t bring myself to witness it.

Shane Black is awesome as well. This ain’t an 80s film, but feels very much like one - if you haven’t seen Kiss Kiss Bang Bang yet, you’ve got a treat in store.

Blame you for what? :lou_lol:

The second one holds a special place in our hearts because we know some white South Africans. There are quotes. Frankly, I think Lee’s gf might have been driven to the edge of madness by these quotes.

I do agree with you. Massive shift in tone from the first film, where Riggs was genuinely unhinged, to the cartoonish bouncy haired comic of the second. Dare I suggest that he was simply getting too old for the crazy shit?

Is that the one where Murtaugh responds to Rigg’s to question about what happened to the bad guys with “They got dekaffernated”?

Yup, it’s the one that introduces Leo Getz as well.

“They always fuck you at the drive thru.”

Yeah really enjoyed Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and The Nice Guys to a lesser extent :lou_smiley: And yeah they could do so much more with the Predator concept, my favourite part of Predator 2 is when he throws him the pistol from the 17 (or 18?) hundreds, set my imagination off big time. All I’ll say about AvP2 is that I can’t really remember what happened in it, and I have little motivation of revisiting it.

Arguably my favourite was First Blood. Once again the follow ups became cartoonist but Rambo. John. J was pretty messed up and more believably agitated in the first one.
