Elite sports women suffer sexism

Well this is no shocker given the sexist crap I’ve read on TSW. But pathetic on every level.

I think we’re same page here Lou cos I am completely opposed to this! I think it’s disgusting! I am v.much against segregation in sport. There shouldn’t be seperate men + woman competitions, i.e. in Olympic 100 metre race there should just be one race and anyone can compete regardless of gender, it should purely be based on whoever is fast enough to qualify.

That way, there would be complete equality of pay, of support from sporting federations, of national interest + everything!

Interesting points raised here. There is too much needless segregation in sport. While we’ve got to accept that men and women are physically different, there are situations in which you wonder why it exists. Why is darts segregated?

I find the level of respect women get depends on the sport. For stuff like the Olympics (and athletics in general), I get the impression that male and female competitors are venerated equally, whereas your typical discussion on female footy involves saying that it’s not as good as the male game and the likely sexual preferences of most of the team.

Hugely controversial opinion, but is football a sport that has to be segregated? Are we really saying that women are incapable of holding their own in a mixed footy team? That the best possible female players couldn’t hold their own at some level?

i don’t think the physical handicap (sorry not sure pc term - disability?) of being a woman is much of a problem, bc if you recall i.e. Lionel Messi had the same problem that he wasn’t good enough to be a professional footballer, so they pumped him full of hormones + steroids, and he ended up being best player in the world! Admittedly he is also a drugs cheat bc of this, but i don’t think it’s fair that you can let Lionel Messi get away with being a drugs cheat, but not i.e. female sportsmen.

Fucking hell, come on Lou, do we have to start more threads on sexism?

Man up ladies.

Well that trolled Chertsey out of the abys. Where have you been, man??

Sexism stops existing, then I’ll stop posting on it! This is a sports based forum, it’s entirely appropriate.

i dunno that ur link is evidence of sexism tho is it lou? It was bit like surveying i.e. photocopy repair men and asking them if i.e. photocopy repair men deserve more money. They should have done the survey on ppl who are i.e. non-partial to one side or the other, i.e. people who are gender neutral, like i.e. george osborne

If the entertainment is eqaual, then so should the wages and benefits. Having said that, there is only one reason to watch ladie’s tennis, but now we have the internet, and can find much better of that kind of thing with the click of a mouse.

Lou, I absolutely accept your down vote for this post.

Tennis is another area in which women have commanded a lot of respect in sport, and I’m not just talking about the audio entertainment I am sure you are referring to. In fact, when the men’s game became the game of the big serve back in Sampras’ day, I’d argue that women’s tennis was better than the men’s game.

Where’ve you been Chertsey? Have you been emotionally torn by the schism in Saintsfansdom. It’s like when the Roman Empire broke apart, or someone declaring an anti-pope, isn’t it? Are ye conflicted, Cherts? Has Granty got the Lodge over the road watching your keystrokes and tablet movements? Has Unbelievable Jeff’s life been threatened?

If it wasn’t for Unbelievable Jeff, I wouldn’t be here. (And Batman, and Hypo…oh and Pap).

UJ was the first to advertise Papsweb on TSW.

What!!!?? UJ is yer DAD!!? :astonished:

Part of the problem is that generally, women are under performing against their potential in many sports. In part because they just don’t get encouraged from a young age in the same way men do. ‘This girl can’ is an excellent initiative to try and make women think differently about physical activity alone, never mind professional sport.

But even in sports where you could say women are more respected (tennis, athletics) there is still an underbelly of piss take, underfunding, offensive media coverage etc etc. Men just don’t get this.

I’m a bit worried about the title of the thread. It seems a bit elitist to me. :innocent:

What about the women that try hard but just suck all the time?..Ah, OK, I realise what I just said there

What I really mean is, what about the women that really go for it, but just don’t have the balls to win?

Oh crap! being all feminist is really hard!!

What about the women who always come last?

I give up.

True. The poor old journeywomen are going to feel alienated if we don’t patronise them too.

I’ve been pretty busy recently, got shit to do, peeps to see. Apologies if people are missing me.

I don’t want to talk more sexism though, that is fo’ sho’.
