It’s almost as most have been picked on form.
Slightly surprised that Lallana hasn’t made the full squad. I know he’s not played much cos of injury, but we’ve looked much better under Southgate with him in the side.
Otherwise though, I’m not shocked by any of those choices. I reckon Southgate has an idea of how he wants the team to play and picks players accordingly, which is a much better way of doing things than just picking the most highly rated players and trying to cobble a team out of them, to my mind.
Hopefully he’ll avoid the Hodgson brain-fart of suddenly changing everything at the last minute. If so, I’d fancy us to get out of the group which, Belgium aside, is pretty weak. After that it’s anyone’s guess.
Honestly delighted that Hart, Wilshere and all the other headless PASHUN merchants are staying at home. International teams really need tactical discipline more than anything IMO.
