England v West Indies 1st day night test

England 39-2 off 7.3 overs

Westley goes LBW bowled Cummins

Well the 2 new batsmen have failed miserably

Why are we not surprised.

Edgbaston has a habit of being a very bad place to bat for the first session

Lunch?

348-3 at stumps

I think we should just declare now and see what the Windies have on a full days play.

We either bowl them out cheaply enforcing the follow on and win in 3 days or they also get around 350 but it will then make a game of it and it’s down to who holds their nerve on the final night if the weather holds out.

This did make me laugh, love the way they keep the same names for each break. Should have had tea, and supper!

Cripes, but the Windies are shocking aren’t they? It all makes me feel a little bit sad inside.

Here’s something to remind everyone of the good times:

An hour into the first session and England have improved to 390-3

Hundred partnership between Cook and Malan 3 runs ago. Malan contributing 40 of them.

Think we should bat through the second session and then declare.

Maiden test 50 for Malan.

413-3

Cook on 192*

Yeah, it’s a day for a newish batsman to try and get his feet under the table.

Pet peeve - cricket commentators calling bowling/batting/fielding ‘ordinary’. I know you can’t say ‘bollocks’ on air, but let’s not mince words. Windies bowling hasn’t been ordinary by any stretch, it’s been ‘rubbish’, as Boycott will no doubt point out.

Cook gets his 4th test double hundred.

Well done the Cookie monster.

Hopefully Malan will go on for a ton and the trip to Australia…having said all that :astonished:

West Indies players would struggle to get in the Sidmouth side

Getting there off that misfield absolutely epitomises this game. But well done Chef. We’ll miss him when he’s gone.

He’s only 32, he’ll be finished in about 15 years time.
