England v West Indies 1st day night test

An hour into the first session and England have improved to 390-3

Hundred partnership between Cook and Malan 3 runs ago. Malan contributing 40 of them.

Think we should bat through the second session and then declare.

Yeah, it’s a day for a newish batsman to try and get his feet under the table.

Pet peeve - cricket commentators calling bowling/batting/fielding ‘ordinary’. I know you can’t say ‘bollocks’ on air, but let’s not mince words. Windies bowling hasn’t been ordinary by any stretch, it’s been ‘rubbish’, as Boycott will no doubt point out.

Well done the Cookie monster.

Hopefully Malan will go on for a ton and the trip to Australia…having said all that :astonished:

West Indies players would struggle to get in the Sidmouth side

Getting there off that misfield absolutely epitomises this game. But well done Chef. We’ll miss him when he’s gone.

He’s only 32, he’ll be finished in about 15 years time.

Malan gone for 65, bit of a nothing shot really, just before lunch too, annoying to say the least

449-4

Lunch being taken now.

I may well have to get my whites out for the trip to Oz  unable to trust anyone else for that spot or even the opener alongside Cookie

I am versatile as well :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

You’re right of course, I’d hope for a few more years out of him yet if his eyes stay good. I just don’t think he’s appreciated as much as he should be - he’s genuinely one of the all time greats IMO.

Probably you’re right, he seems to have done it all under the radar.

Wow, leave work and get home less than 2 hours later and the Windies are batting, then this

This is a mismatch of epic proportions, should they lose their test status? Others want a chance.

I think England have fucked up big time and have a real no win scenario looming.

No not this series, the Ashes.

Imagine 1 or 2 of Stoneman Westley or even Malan failing in the next tests. Then what do we do in Aus?

Equally imagine Malan going on and making some 50s and getting found out in Aus.

Where do we go if Stoneman cant cut it? Sure can swap Malan for Hayles or Westley moving Root back to 3

Actually there is England’s problem. Root really must bat at 3 THEN we have options.

Meanwhile so sad to see the Windies reduced to 2nd Division Test cricket level perhaps 2 divisions is the way to go with promotion& play offs.

Got drunk and missed a whole day nights play :lou_sad:
