As I’m sure you’re all aware, there has been a bit of a row this week over equal pay in tennis, but which side do you sit on?

they should be paid 3/5 the amount as that is the amount of work they do.
The irony is there is properly more parity in Tennis than any other sport.
one side is arguing that there is no difference, the other says we play longer matches and we have a bigger draw. The easiest way to sort it would be to split a tournament. Have a men’s only week and then a women’s only weeks and see who turns up to watch. That would then give an idea of the popularity of both codes and therefore a marketable value for each.

This isn’t an issue of equal pay. Tennis players are not employees, they are entertainers. Entertainers should get remuneration in line with sales they cause.
I understand what djokovic is saying, the warm up act don’t get paid the same as the stones. But he is assuming the men’s game is more popular than the women’s. I don’t know the facts on that but presumably he has based his position on something.
Or just have a single tournament for all genders.

That would contain 0 women though. Serena couldn’t even compete with mens players ranked 200-300 in the world.
No one should be paid to play tennis, it’s a seasonal hobby, mainly watched by middle-aged ladies who lunch.

Outside of the Grand Slams the womens tour is pretty poorly paid outside the top 10, on the coat-tails of men is correct, womens football is the same, why should we molly coddle it? If people dont want to watch why should it be force fed to us?
I haven’t watch womens tennis since the mid 90’s, its shite thats why.
Equality and fairness are two different things and things are not equal, if women played the best of five sets then yes no problem at all, but they dont so they shouldn’t get parity with men.
Tennis is Very Important.
Without it, the market for Strawberries & Cream and Prosecco would be destroyed and that would put thousands of innocent farmers & wine merchants out of work

They are all overpaid as it is, so any player whinging about it either way is a twat and has no sympathy from me.
Well obviously, the point is would it be as popular even though there would be few/no women in it?
Just a point of order, men only play 5 sets in the Grand Slams and Davis Cup matches, all other tournaments are played over 3 sets so, in those tournaments, why shouldn’t women get paid the same as men.
Saying that most tournaments, outside of the Grand Slams and masters, are single sex ones. And the Masters and Grand Slams the male and female matches are mixed up on the courts.

They are hence they get paid far less in the competitions that the sponsors govern, why not a pro rata rate for the best of 3 and 5? That sounds fair to me. Why should you get more for doing less?

Edit: I am not srs I actually prefer ladies tennis. My favourite players are Hantuchova + Kirilenko. I would service them srs. I would let them smash my balls.

So you’re saying Djockovic should get payed less because he generally knocks his opponents off in 2 sets (in 3 set matches) in 90 mins? Whereas a low ranking match can go to 3 sets and be 3 hours long?
