EU - In or Out? The big vote 23rd June 2016

As we are on the final straight to the vote on June 23rd, I thought it deserved a thread on it’s own.

Where do you stand on the issue? I am honestly undecided, so try and sway me one way or the other.

I am very interested in your opinions on this issue.

Barry will be out for blood.

That was his best thread, damn it!

However, we don’t value thread creation in and of itself around here, and attaching polls to existing threads is a pain in the arse. Plus, this might be an opportunity for Barry to present refined opinions.

Oh and question time has been a bit of an eye opener for me, 23:00-23:45 tonight. (NOW)

Dam, did have a quick look for one… Oops.

It’s the Brexit thread. However, that has been rather clogged up, so I’m ambivalent.

I’m actually a little torn on threads re: frequency and length. I think that ultimately, people like to see nice, long conversations with points and counter-points, but there was a lot of sparring on the last thread, so I’m ambivalent on this particular issue.

What do others think?

The fact Pap has already spoken for me and my views on this thread proves he is a proponet of this undemocratic trade fantasy.

I see Dianne Abbot is making the usual tit of herself on QT.

Oh I did not think of looking in there. I will leave it up to you Pap.

The whole subject of in and out I am ambivalent about. I was in all the way until the last few months and I really do not think it would be as much of an issue as originally was made out in some sectors.

You’ve just made a tit of yourself on Sotonians Time by implying non-democratic values when I clearly gave it to the floor.

Why would I be out for blood? You spoke for me did you not?

Sod it. I am taking the bait.

Maybe the ‘out for blood’ was just a little joke. Oh look SFCSIM is taking Barry’s thunder by introducing another similar thread. That kind of thing.

He didn’t speak for you. He suggested in a flippant way you may not like someone stepping on your toes.

And to the first comment. Are we really in the final straight? We have bloody months of this in, out, in out stuff to come. Maybe the last week is the final straight.

What really worries me about this is that the vote will be decided by people who really do not have a clue about what the issues really are. :lou_sad:

But you want your right to vote surely?

Think I might have messed up quoting there

Isn’t that what we, supposedly, vote our MPs in for. They’re supposed to be our proxy vote aren’t they?

That’s the theory.

Realistically, constituencies are comprised of about 65K people, many of them with different political views than the government in power. How can one representative, with prescribed political views, represent all of those citizens?

I accept that is our system right now, but “it is the way it is” isn’t justification in and of itself. We’ve already got the technology to look at more direct forms of democracy. The question is whether we’ve got the maturity. You wouldn’t have thought so, going by social media :lou_smiley:

poll ptions should be in, out, shake it all about pls

I voted OUT not cos i care one bit bout immigrants, but cos it’s too expensive & will get worse when Turkey joins, and cos my dad said when he originally voted in, they was told it was only about doing trade, and not about gravy train for Neil Kinnock and his wife to fly around in private jets, and giving opportunity for French Speaking Big Noses to hold authority over our secret English business. He reckons he was mis-sold, and is making PPI claim.

fk you why single me out?

I don’t think it’s so much that folks don’t know what the issues are but that like any multifaceted and highly complex institution, there are a huge number of them all with pros and cons - it’s almost impossible to make an objective decison - there is an equally long list of what some might consider the crap that comes with membership as there is for the real value of being part of the community

Only those who have deep seated ideological positions will only share the one list …

Most folk will be confused and thus decide on their basic ideology rather than a systematic and comprehensive review of value or otherwise of the EU responsibilities and outcomes.

The media will spout its usual biased propaganda and most folk won’t have the time to research it all themselves.

I am am one of those - don’t have the time to go into it all so will go with my base ideology
