Explosions at the Manchester Evening News Arena

Just sighed loudly in the office having seen that this made no impact.

I apologise profusely and this won’t happen again, again.

this probably isn’t the time, but I feel very strongly about this. I’ve just read that people have raised £1.5m for the victims. I just don’t understand what for. What’s that money for? This isn’t some humanitarian disaster in a poor part of the world. What use is that money? It’s almost like saying, “sorry your child is dead, here have some money.”

I see Tom Hardy is already half way to his target of £15,000. What? Why? And if he’s that bothered why doesn’t he just give £15,000?

the Mrs has told me off for expressing this view. She says people are just being nice. She is usually right and I’m pretty much always wrong, but I find this a mixture of sick and self serving.

am I right or is Mrs fatso right?

I’m with you Fatso. I’m sure people mean well but as you say it’s like, sorry you lost someone, we don’t know what else to do or say so here is a bundle of cash. Perhaps it would be better if the media and everyone just left them alone to grieve?

I’m with you I think. A terrible thing happens to Strangers and I am interest and empathy, but I don’t feel any compunction to elbow in on the grief. They had 4 (four!) vigils today in fkn Brighton. I wonder how ppl end up going to things like that?

It’s called solidarity, a trait not shown by many Southerners as they’re too selfish and wanting a higher price for their house, if you live in the North you may get to appreciate and like it, now don’t get me wrong I nearly hurl at the cliches thrown out about being strong, friendly and warm but I can say one thing if my back was against the wall and I was in the shit I’d rather have a northerner at my side than a southerner on the whole, it’s a bluntness and an honesty that you don’t get down south.

What, only northerners have raised the £1.5m? I didn’t realise.

Ha Ha no I just know a bit about up here and like it, I love coming home and Southampton will always be home but people are more uptight down south, a bit grumpier.

No people have raised that amount.

Got back earlier this evening, I’ve had to cover some extraordinary news events in the Uk, over 20 years and I’ve never known such genuine emotion in reporters, news people! It’s like a badge of honour to be cynical and professional usually. I really don’t like doing news in general, but i’ve never seen so many reporters etc. moved, some to tears.

UKIP will announce their manifesto tomorrow. They have nowhere to go except more extreme nationalism. They will take advantage of this terrorist attack to try and divide people.

It looked they were going to be wiped off of the political map. This could sadly give them a boost.

Exactly, they are the only party who will start campaigning again tomorrow. Why? They have taken up the policies of the BNP. This isn’t about Brexit, it’s always been about white nationalism.

Local campaigning starts for all after 1200 tomorrow, UKIP will release their manifesto as others have done so, I don’t think this will help them in any way to gain seats.

Why do you think that Barry? They thrive on stirring up racial hatred and division. This couldnt have been timed better for them. They were losing support as a lot of Brexiters were thinking job done. They will maintain that the job hasnt been done and that they are still relevant.

People will see through that I am sure, I sincerely hope so anyway.
