Fallout 4

A big big video game lands today. Anyone getting it / got it / not eaten solid foods for eight hours because of it?

I have thus far relented, but with the working day done, it is presently Steam’ing onto my PC.

Day one. Bug apocalypse. I must be mad.

Well done you. Have many a happy hour maiming.

Friend of mine has banished his kids, ordered Pizza, crsacked a beer and begun to immerse himself in this stuff… sadly Mrs C thinks i am too old for such nonsense… :lou_sad:

Bollocks to that. My retirement plan involves sitting in my undies and playing all the stuff I’ve bought in Steam sales.

“Told you it would be worth it in the end, dear…”

etc.

Way too much information pap… its what happens to all games nerds in the end

Broke my golden rule of never buying a game on day one.

Downloaded the game, no problem.

Fired up the game, installing.

Check back an hour later, still installing.

A further hour and a half later, still installing. Progress at 18%, 18 fucking %.

AAA games are bullshit.

…Still, if it ever gets installed I am looking forward to playing the bastard fucking thing.

Played 6-7 hours yesterday, it’s fucking sublime. Really feel like this is going to be a big time drain - i’ve only completed about 4 quests so far! Spent most of my time wandering around exploring places. Lots of fun.

It’s worth getting out of the way that this is five year old tech underpinning this game. Mechanically, it isn’t much different from Fallout 3, even if many of the systems seem to have been streamlined, with new, unexplained systems taking their place.

That said, what an opening, and what an interesting hook to get the story off the ground. I’ve just finished the mission where you have to help out the Minutemen. A few raiders? A powersuit and a minigun. No trouble, right? Wrong. As I’m working my way through the town, a deathclaw emerges from under the streets and starts lashing out at all and sundry.

Several attempts later, I finally get the bastard, and I do this by letting him rip into the raiders, while I sneak around the back. Sneak damage is worth tons more in Fallout, so after successfully sneaking behind him, the first volley of minigun fire takes him down to half health. Between the dog and the parked car, the deathclaw was unable to get to me too quickly, so I managed to take it out before it touched me at all.

Sneak attacks. In large metal powersuits. With a minigun. That’s Fallout, people

… meanwhile, Mrs Cracked Rib refuses to budge…stating I spend enough time on guitar building, guitar playing and cycling and dont need more distractions from my daily chores… :lou_sad:

I think I’ll stick to reading.

Jesus, Cracked Rib. You are owned!

Its true though… I get away with loads of ‘metime’ on all thosethings… no room left for gaming (and she thinks 45 year old men should not be stuck playing computer games like teenage nerds :lou_smiley:

Translated as:-

“Fuck you videogaming nerds. I’ll fire real miniguns at real deathclaws. In Tahiti!”

:lou_lol:

You need to get her on Skyrim. She’ll be addicted immediately.

45? Pah! You’re still a youngster!

Awaiting Star Wars Battlefront next week. Won’t be much time for anything else for a while.

At 75% now.

Seems it’s an actual issue and not just me. Really poor.

Fucking annoying, as I’m away for the weekend tomorrow. So can’t play til next week, though gf won’t be working nights and I’m away with work for part of the week.

Raging.

I got it for PC. Having a couple of crashes. Saving often.

Its exactly the same really as Fallout 3 but that is no bad thing, the wooden Keanu Reeves acting hasn’t improved and I would have hoped for a bit more of variety in missions as opposed to the go fetch rover stuff but still going to be very enjoyable indeed.

Shame I don’t have the time to play this, as I would like to. Not enough time in my life though… :lou_sad:
