Fanzine or other publication

I have been in secret discussions with Sfcsim over the medium of private message. He is of the opinion that the site is full of ostentatious wordsmiths that collectively, could be greater than the sum of our parts. Okay, they weren’t exactly his words, but we write shit. A lot of it. Some of it is even interesting.

Sfcsim is interested in fanzines, possibly printed. I’m potentially interested in some kind of podcast, although I don’t know the first thing about it. Before we can decide on doing anything, I think we need to gauge a level of interest. What do you reckon, Sotonians? Wanna publish something?

I defiantly did not say that, I am not a wordy person…

I could contribute a line.

Could Bazza have his own life help column? I’ll gladly offer my services to help the people of Sotonia.

But would we use our eyes or a mucous membrane to absorb it, Goatster?

I’d like to suggest Bear’s Big Kat Diaries as a regular feature. It needs a proper home and he has the first several episodes already written.

I’d also like to write something where a fly on the wall documentary team follows the Koeman Bros. 24x7 for a season.

Perhaps unionhotel could review team performances each week, and select an Anglo-Saxon of the match?

I really like the idea, but these things do take a lot of commitment to meet the grade.

No twat powder for me Bletch. I was being succinct.

Could this be done in the manner of 1980s cartoons, where a moral message was appended to the end of each episode? We could name the feature “Goatboy’s last minute butt-in”, in the manner of Jerry Springer’s last word.

“Don’t go to Popworld, kids. Till next time, take care of yourselves and each other”

Only if we can get someone from the Samaritans to provide counter points.

Well, I for one am happy to lend my services to a publication. I think it’d be a good way of distilling the personality of the site into other forms that people will enjoy. I have to say, I’ve got my doubts about a printed publication in this ever digital age, but a PDF might be just the way to go. I don’t actually think we’d need to do too much. While I acknowledge that 98.7% of this site is merely insecure back-slapping, there are one or two self-standing nuggets of gold glittering in the self-congratulatory shit.

Well said. You’re a diamond.

I still think that in the football environment, there is still a need for printed publication. I think, even if it is just once, It will reach the masses, where there are still generations of football fans that love the printed fanzine and even generations of people that are still not digital.

Could still advertise other forms of media, within the fanzine, to increase exposer even further. SMS has to be the main target audience for Sotonians.com and how do you target this area without printed publication?

Most of the internet is back slapping high fiving wankness, originality is an art form one should consider seriously.

If hard-copy is the intent I think it will need to be scrutinised carefully by our resident legal team.

Oh my god yeah, I’d love that!

Barry - can I write in the first life help letter that needs your advice?! It would inevitably involve a conundrum with a man.

My view is that you COULD consider producing a hard-copy version IF the electronic version is TRULY excellent. And that would take a lot of talent and a lot of effort. I’m not sure we’ve got either of those in spades.

Brutal, but true.

We might all self-congratulatingly think we’re funny here, but to 'get’ the ‘humour’ we dish up here involves understanding a lot of the Saints’ Internet forum memes that each we take for granted.

Printed fanzines have no serious market whilst Twitter and other forums exist. Modern information consumers do not want to read anything longer than 140 characters, and anything that is longer needs to offer something unique or otherwise valuable to be consumed.

An electronic fanzine allied to sotonians.com, that expanded upon some of the humour and interesting things that get discussed would be a fun thing to be involved with.

Anything more than that isn’t likely to fly in my view.

Now there is another poster that could contribute valuable content.

You write what you want Lou, I’ll be sure to give sound advice and guidance all the way through, it’s more of a calling than helping, that’s what I do.

Great! I love getting good advice, and everything about you seems to suggest you be the perfect person to be advising me!
