Films that should have been rubbish

…but were really rather good.

Sat watching the Lego Movie with my daughter. What an utterly, utterly brilliant film. Has no right to be any good, but it really is.

Any other suggestions?

Sharknado - any film that has a man dive into the open mouth of a flying shark with a chainsaw gets my vote as there is obviosly some rich and deep allogory going on here - I will let you know when I work it out

Stepbrothers is a film that I really shouldn’t like at all but it has me in stitches all the way through.

Agreed, it wasn’t exactly a popular film when it came out, but has many a laugh out loud moment.

Boats and Hoe’s anyone?

I watched Three Headed Shark Attack the other day, with none other than Danny Trejo as the main character.

Was awful mind…

Lol. I watched that with kid goat. She found it hilarious.

If nothing else they have coined a great name for a fish food restaurant franchise.

I’ve said before that there is no paycheck Danny Trejo won’t take. At the age he entered the industry, fair play to him.

He was in a good episode of Monk. It does take away from his mentalist characters in his early films though.

About the same height as you as well Pap…

Forget Star Wars for a week and watch this film, shot entirely on location using no artificial lights (never been done before) The cameraman Emmanuel Lubezki is a genius.

You had me at DiCaprio and Hardy to be honest, Ted.

Not sure it belongs in this thread, though?

Looks like a winner all the way.

I know this is sacrilidge but ET. If someome showed you the drawing of the alien and then the final rubber blob wouldnt you have said no way, this will never work. The same way that Jaws lost all of its terror the moment you saw the rubber shark bouncing around on the boat. But despite the worst rubber alien dummy ever, somehow Spielberg pulled it off. Can only put it down to a massive suspension of disbelief.

What do you mean?

Ok Bletch who are you to judge … Films that should have been rubbish

Crazy, Stupid, Love.

A middle-aged husband’s life changes dramatically when his wife asks him for a divorce. He seeks to rediscover his manhood with the help of a newfound friend, Jacob, learning to pick up girls at bars.

Sounds awful, doesn’t it? The promotional material makes it look like your standard romcom bollocks. Oh good - it’s got Steve Carell in it. Will he be playing clumsy goof or goofy prat in this one? And Ryan Gosling thrown in as eye candy. Wonderful.

Except it is wonderful. It’s witty and charming; ridiculous yet steeped in reality and stitched together from independently plausible situations. Multi-threaded, unconventional and anything but straight-forward. Full of heart from start to finish.

I’m also fairly sure you’ll fall in love with Emma Stone, no matter your gender or sexual preference.

Easy ‘A’ Emma Stone or Zombieland Emma Stone but not The Amzing Spiderman Emma Stone, blonde just does not suit her

Oh and Lego Movie was a hit for me didn’t think it would be bad at all!!
