Football League Playoffs

It’s that time of year, for Football League fans to inflict the worst in excitement, dread, joy, fear, adulation & utter dejection.

Ties as follows:

Championship

Brighton vs Sheff Wed

Derby vs Hull

League 1

Barnsley vs Walsall

Bradford vs Millwall

League 2

Poopey vs Plymouth (1st leg = 2-2)

AFC Wimbledon vs Accrington Stanley

Any thoughts on who people want to triumph?

Personally would love Sheff Weds back in the PL. No reason for this other than nostalgia, and they were a Prem club when I started following football in the 90’s and the likes of Carbone, Pressman & Hinchcliffe are all cult 90s football heroes.

No real thoughts on L1. As for L2, I’d like Wimbledon to get promoted, I’m from West London so a bit biased - also a face off with MK Dons could be fun

Right,

Championship - I would like to see Hull City come up as it s a game I would go to away and a ground I have not been to. But would also like to see Wednesday come up. Again an away game I would do.

League 1 - Bradford for me as the club have some great ideas about getting bums on seats and I would like to see this rewarded. Not really fussed about this league to much.

League 2 - Would love to see Wimbeldon to come up and be in the same league as MK, for the big fingers up at them, but would also like to see Accy as it is up my way. Will be buying tickets for the final of one of these 2 clubs though, to go to the final and cheer them on and take in a match.

Non league - Grimsby as Forest Green are the money men!

Controversy at Hillsborough…Wednesday denied an opening goal by a veeeeery late offside flag.

That has to be the longest delay in putting a flag up after a goal has been scored that I have seen. Some supporters were out of the ground and in the pub, they had been celebrating that long.

I’d love to see Brighton come up, as there’d then be no fewer than three south coast teams in the Premier League. And with Pompey languishing in League Two that will be especially fab. If not, though, I’d rather like to see Wednesday back in the top league.

League One not too fussed really. League Two I’d love to see AFC Wimbledon go up, for much the same reasons as others have mentioned. Pity Eastleigh blew their play-off chances from the Conference, as they’ll have to wait another year before they can commence their local derby with Pompey.

Sheff Wed, Bradford and Plymouth for me please! 3 teams i’ve always had a soft spot for, for various reasons.

Great goal! Brighton have been so average, don’t think they’d cut it in the Prem. Plus their fans are mongs.

This game should be 4-0. Weds have been excellent

Derby - just to see if they can get even less points this time around!

Barnsley - just because

AFC Wimbledon please - If Pompey do somehow sneak into the final then I hope Wimbledon batter them

Same for me. Would love to see Sheffield Wednesday back in the Premier League, where a club of that size belongs. When I was growing up and Saints were mostly shit, Wednesday were usually a decent top half “Canon League Division One” (Prem) side. Hillsborough is a massive ground, that generates an awesome atmosphere when on song, as we saw last night.

It is not just Sheff Wednesday for me in that ‘nostalgic’ sense. I want all the big clubs currently exiled in the Championship back up. The size of the fan-bases and the atmospheres at Clubs like Nottingham Forest, Leeds United, Birmingham City, Wolverhampton Wanderers, I’d love to have them all back up in the Premier League. Top Flight for the Top Clubs for me, then it really is the ‘elite’ competition. I hated seeing wanky little clubs with tiny support that couldn’t even fill their small stadiums in the Prem (!) like Wigan, Fulham, Blackpool, P*rtsmouth etc who mostly bought, (stole and cheated in the case of the latter) their way up, at the expense of the really big sides.

Would have loved Brighton up in the automatic places too as I’ve said before, purely so we could have had three South Coast Clubs in the Premier League, whilst the horrible cheating fish-fucking cunts languish in the deepest darkest depths of Division Four. Would have been beautiful.

But this Play Off has pitted both of the sides I wanted up against each other, and Wednesday win that duel for me. It has been way too long since they graced the top flight.

League One, I have no preference. Would have loved Port Vale up as I have some family connections to the Club, but they flirted with the outskirts of the Play Offs for most of the season, without ever actually getting into the top six.

League Two, I want Plymouth up, again, for family connections.

Why are Derby playing Will Hughes as a defensive midfielder? What a waste.

Truly sad to see all those gutted Derby fans. I am so over 2007.

Hey Derby, remember us?

How’s that whole play-off thing working for you this time?

My interest in football started properly in 1966. What a year! Engalnd won the WC and Saints were promoted. The first cup final I remember properly was Everton v Sheffield Wednesday in the same year so Wednesday for me.

I have only seen us lose one game at The Dell/St Marys and that was to Derby, so feeling quietly happy this evening :lou_sunglasses:

Got a mate that supports Derby. I worked with him when they narrowly beat us in the playoff semi-final that one time we went for broke (achieved there, lads!). He’s not a bad lad for a Tory. Little bit gutted for him, but not that much.

Last minute goal for AFC Wimbledon tonight to beat Accrington 1-0

Oh and fuck Derby. I was at their place in 2007 and what goes around…
