'Football Matters' ... Barry Talks Saints

Though I’d start a thread for you Baz, worth a try, maybe they’ll start listening :lou_wink_2:

Thread rules:

  1. No moaning about Barrys posting style … you’re here by choice

  2. Discussion and debate welcome

I actually agree with Barry on a lot of things he says about the club. I just dont swear as much and I dont think Puel is a cunt I just think he is not very good. I do think Les Reid should leave us alone. and I am a bit sick of all the love in for our Chairman and owner. To me they are incompetant at best and at worst deceitful. I know Kat has inversted money into the club but she is earning on that money. I also dont believe they have the ability to move us on as a club because they are mis guided. The man responsible for misguiding them is Les Reid. I am sick of his interviews and sick of his smugness and I am sick of him obviously picking a yes man because he couldnt handle Koeman. On that score Barry is spot on

I think the club have missed a big opportunity and that is wher the anger comes from because that opportunity one comes around once in a blue moon. Its all really similar to what was said about Nigel, ie he has done well for us but we need to progress. And we did progress but with Reid soley in charge we have cut our cloth too thin

@newyorksaint can I point out that is it Reed please, not Reid.

Think you’re being a bit harsh on Kat, why shouldn’t she make money out of the club? You think Abromovich is doing it for fun?

The real problem we have is Reed, although for the last couple of years he has got it spot on, it was always likely to happen and I hope he learns from it.

We buy players, we coach them good and they leave, if we could stop that then it would be great, Fortunately FFP stops us playing players more than we can afford so they will always leave for better (read more money) things. Oh and Champions League football.

Reed and Reid sounds the same to me. That said take your point.

I think people whingeing and and bitching about half a shit season when we have had 5 or 6 years of almost unprecedented success should grow the fuck up and get a sense of perspective. The board and owners will make mistakes - I don’t begrudge them that when they have got almost everything else right for 5 years.

Ambramovich has invested well over a billion so they’re miles apart, the Liebherrs saw this as a long term investment so they certainly aren’t a charity, they saved us but they’ll get their pound of flesh.

Right on others things

The first question for believers is this

How can we improve whilst selling our best players to our rivals?

That is the only question you only really need to answer, we can’t and its obvious we can’t whilst we do that.

Now the positive reply to that is that by saying the club will invest more in better players from the sales.

Has that happened?

Do people genuinely believe we can leapfrog heavily backed and better supported clubs whilst having this blueprint?

Does Kruegar or Reed? Katharina Liebherr is a business women first and foremost hence her lack of investment (this is where she wants a return) and couldn’t really care too much as long as there is a profit.

Employing Puel makes a statement, a cheap one and a gamble at that.
Who has replaced Fonte when Reed said there would be one and he wouldn’t be sold without one?
The galling thing is we’ve sold him not to a top 7 seven club but West Ham.

I explained this all last week and felt the the father telling his children Father Christmas isn’t real.

Wise up, they’re telling you fibs, we’re a selling will always be a selling club UNTIL we have a serious backer prepared to invest in wages.
That won’t happen and arguably nor do I want it to, I just want honesty and Kruegar isn’t the man for that, its not even his sport.

So, you’re pissed off that the board are ‘spinning’ things? And that’s it? Everything would be resolved if they put their hands up and admitted we’re a selling club?

You’re treating everyone on here as we’re idiots Bazza. I don’t think anyone’s under the illusion we’re not a selling club. Most of us are just trying to enjoy the ride. That’s why we’re here and not on SWF.

I’m saying why hasn’t anyone else said Kruegar is full of shit and how can we improve? I said the glass ceiling was reached last season and was derided for it, it is obvious as I’d someone to explain to me how we can sell our best players and go further?

Or is Kruegar, Reed and the club as a whole thinking Southampton fans are the gullible whoppers going?

Enjoying the ride? I want Puel off, Kruegar as well, we are literally a selling club as the club is for sale, I said Bert Van Marwijk and still want him, we’ll go for Sturrock or Paul Cook I know it.

Managed decline

I’m treated as an idiot all day long welcome to the club I say.

This is nothing to do with football bazza :lou_wink_2:

I have now calmed down largely due to a couple of leffes and a Savigny les Beaune 1st Cru that is sat in the decanter whilst the shepards pie bubbles away.

What is obvious and apparent is how good Koeman was as a manager, what is the real reason for him going?

Money?
Ambition?

Both I’d say, Reed hasn’t performed this season in selection and he has said he governs football matters.

He goes.

Puel doesn’t need an explanation as its obvious he is out of his depth.

Goalkeeping coach? Forster has gone backwards.

Kruegar? Like a front man for a mafia casino, does he genuinely believe the shite that comes out of his mouth? Its absolute crap.

I know this is your thread. Bazza, so I’m loathe to criticise you for its contents.

But, why do you feel the need to repeat the same thing over and over again? Do you not get bored of typing exactly the same words in a slightly different order? (or are they are all just ready to copy and paste?)

God knows we find it boring but surely you do too?

You’re correct its on a thread for me to moan mate, you have little room to manoeuvre.

You haven’t disagreed but you simply stated I’m moaning?

What more can I add?

I agree with these points Baz and some of your other concerns. We’re having a tough time at the moment and I think Reed made a mistake not pushing the boat out to get a centre back in. Likewise I think he misjudged our striker situation in the summer. But he’s got enough credits due, from the an awful lot of things he’s done right over the last few years, to allow him the odd error of judgement.

Also, I don’t think Puel’s as dumb and incompetant as you think he is, there’s plenty of reasons his progress has been slow and he needs more time … I do agree tho’, the nature of football doesn’t always give you that luxury.

As for Krueger, well he has nothing to do with the football side of things. His duties are commercial, mostly about selling the brand overseas … which he seems to do well.

Striker in the summer? Where was that? Reed

Allowing Fonte to go when he said there’d be a replacement when he lied and also knowing VVD was injured was criminal. Reed

We’ve a far worse team following this philosophy. Reed

Said arrogant philosophy could cost us our place in the Premiership, he can shove that black x box up his arse. Reed

Academy is it as good as they say? Have you seen the results lately? Reed

@steveintheforest Your spelling in the thread title is atrocious.

This is how you spell S H I T E.

Love you Barry, but you do spout Saints.

Why wasn’t Fonte replaced?
Waiting fir a cheaper deal on Sakho?

Why wasn’t a centre forward bought last summer when we plan our purchases 2 windows in advance from the black box?

This 5 year plan is quite possibly the worst lie ever stated to football fans as its so obvious under the current philosophy its not possible.

Therefore Reed is not only a liar but wholly incompetent and he should walk.

As a fan it’s always fucking annoying when we lose or sell good players

As someone who appreciates the precarious nature of a business in which you can lose 75% of turnover through sporting choices, the model the club has chosen of buy potential, and sell high, is a good one but also comes with risk…

As a normal person, I am just glad my family is healthy and generally happy in a world that has more pressing and bigger problems to worry about

As an overweight unhealthy chubster I am just glad if I wake up in the morning :lou_is_a_flirt:
