Forster stats

This might be the first thread I’ve started… how terribly exciting!

Anyway, according to this our Fraser is 6th from bottom of Premier League keepers in terms of Opta stats this season: http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11661/10684357/premier-league-goalkeepers-ranked-by-goals-they-should-have-conceded-according-to-opta

I’ve no idea how they work this out, but thought it might be worthy of discussion anyway, specially as subjectively I think his form has dropped this season a bit. Whaddaya think?

What we learn from that is that the fewer games you play, the better you look.

If you came off the bench for one minute and faced no shots you would be ranked ahead of 21 keepers.

With Vorm at 4th best in the country, I think they need a rethink…

Stats are for lads who need a shag.

I like Fraser! He got hands like a giant

I make it that Forster is still ranked about 18th of all keepers who play (relatively) regularly… And behind Skeleton-burger!

Don’t get me wrong, I love Fraser, I think he’s totally wonderful, but I do think he’s dipped a bit… no idea why.

When I saw Bravo rated above him I stopped reading…

he did withdraw from the England squad (when hart was out) with an arm injury and doesn’t seem to have been the same since.

I’ve never really rated Fraser.

Even when we were on that record breaking clean-sheet run under Koeman, I couldn’t help but credit the defence and CMs above him.

He’s obviously decent and I’m obviously wrong to not see his talent, but I really just can’t see what others see.

He just seems so immobile and slow. All of the good stuff he does relates to him being enormous and having positioned himself correctly. Once he’s not in the right place, he’s easily beaten.

Agree with all of that mate

Against Arsenal he began to look more commanding. Looked like someone had told him to be braver coming off of his line.

I fear that after his shocker against Palace he will revert to being a ditherer.

Yup. This. No way he’d be as highly rated if he wasn’t English.

Thinking back to the Arsenal 0-0 last season shows what an effective shot stopper he can be, 50% due to sheer mass, 50% down to good reflexes. After that I think he struggles to command the box, too slow off his line, too often waits for the ball to come to him at chest height on crosses into the box rather than collecting at his highest point (which must be about 11-12 feet for him). I’m not going to blame him too much for the 1st goal on saturday, he must deal with 20-30 backpasses everygame, one was due to go tits up.

poor old Fraser. He’s getting a lot of stick on here today. I think he’s very good and am pleased he’s our keeper. Better than what we’ve had over the past few years.

There is no place for sentiment in football, Fatsod.

Apart from against Liverpool and Sparta and Arsenal. Oh and Everton, where he had nothing to do, you are absolutely 100% right.

I don’t really understand that post. I suspect you’re saying I’m not right but I don’t really understand the point you’re making.
