Personally, I’m waiting for this to be delivered. Ordered it back in 2013
Maybe they wont deliver until you pay for it?
Always thought of France as more suited to horses and carts anyway so it’s a step in the right direction.
I drive this. (Only on sunny days).
The idea that the combustion engine will be no more scares me a little.
I reckon I’d feel like a stranger in that world - a bit like when I used to show my dad new things on his computer (like photo red-eye removal) and he’d look into the middle-distance, go quiet, look nervously thoughtful and say “it’s amazing what they can do nowadays”.
I saw this on the BBC the other day…a battery powered plane. They reckon as the technology improves they could eventually build planes big enough for 100 people. At the moment it’s all very small scale, but it’s impressive nonetheless.
Personally I’ll give the battery-powered plane flights a miss until they’ve perfected the technology…
Nancy. As long as they pack one of those portable chargers it will be fine.
I don’t think anyone is suggesting that we all climb into one right now and fly to America. The technology will eventually be able to take us safely long distances. Open your mind grandad!
LOL
I can just see a wind up transformer dropping out of the ceiling alongside the oxygen mask and the captain asking all passengers to wind like fury to keep the plane up there.
They will still all require crude to come out the ground for greasing bearings and making most of them out of plastic so I will still have a job or my replacements will as I will be well retired by then.
Transport in 2040…
Electric cars will only progress when the oil companies permit them to.
Seems we’re following suit. Value of my car has just gone down, especially as it’s a diesel.
Fuck me. Anyone with a 17 plate must be gutted.
By 2040 I should imagine a 17 plate diesel won’t be worth much anyway.
Whichever way you slice it, the public is going to get shafted. There are new laws coming in for diesel owners. A government with balls would have challenged the companies that flouted these rules and fined them, using the money to compensate consumers that are going to be hit in the pocket through no fault of their own, and all fault lying with corporates and their collective malfeasance. This is not a government with balls, or much power to throw about.
I think it’ll affect the car market and road network now. The value of every diesel has just dropped. Those owners are going to have two broad options; sell at a vast loss or run the car into the ground. Most are going to take option B, meaning that these polluting vehicles are going to be on the road longer, and in ever degrading shape.
On the proposal in the abstract. I’m hugely in favour. Assuming I survive my lifestyle until 65, I will see pollution free cities. My grandkids, if and when they arrive, are going to spend most of their lives in a pollution reduced Britain. It would just be nice if this didn’t sting the British consumer in the pocket as I know it probably will.
I guess that there’s no easy way of getting these cards off the road. At least we’re doing something. I bought a diesel in December. Its just another example of how my life is one bad decision after another. Still, if it means the planet survives I’ll take the hit. But I’ll be furious if we all still die anyway.
It ain’t gonna amount to a hill of beans if countries like the USA continue to be the worlds worst polluters…
