šŸ‰ šŸ’ŗ āš” Game Of Thrones /spoilers

Iā€™m finding the new season pretty terrible! I mean, not terrible in comparison with i.e. 2 Broke Girls but terrible in comparison with i.e. Previous Seasons.

Here is my complaints:

  1. The plot bout the 3 warrior girls, and pretty much everying that happens in Dorne, is fucking terrible. When i was watching them fighting it was like Xena: Warrior Princess deleted scene

  1. Old Man Barriston was the only good thing in Dragonland

  2. I like Stannis & Dwarf & Bronn but their current adventures are either dumb, or off-screen

  3. I donā€™t care bout Stonemans or what happens in Face Temple or what happens in Dragonland or what happens in Dornes or what happens in Stansa Starks

  4. I have other intellectual complaints bout the pacing or something, and would wish to say something v.intelligent bout that, but I donā€™t know how.

What do you mean Robert Baratheon dies in series 1?

Nice one Bear!

The show is compressing a lot of material into its relatively short runs. The books have tons of characters, and if anything, drag on for even longer on some arcs. Where the show perhaps does itself a disservice is by condensing the material so much that in the case of stuff like Dorne, the audience doesnā€™t really have enough time to get invested. Condensing the characters into composites of two or three book characters, is also creating a bit of outrage at the moment. The Sansa scene that people are upset about it is in the books; it just isnā€™t Sansa it happened to.

The fighting scene was pants, I agree.

Yeah - itā€™s shit fā€™sure. The Stonemen are double shit.

Donā€™t get me started on Daredevil either. Somehow got convinced by a bunch of internet weirdos on another forum that is was worth the time of day. Maybe in a ā€˜itā€™s better than all the other superhero series which are proper shitā€™ kind of way is it worth watching.

Thought Daredevil was very good. No freak of the week stuff. Solid performances from the cast. Iā€™ve a little bit of an issue with them killing off a MCU supporting character or two, but enjoyed it loads.

Maybe itā€™s because I watched eight seasons of Smallville.

Tbh, I ditched it pretty early. Too much other stuff to watch.

Finally watched Kickass the other day. Thatā€™s good superhero nonsense.

Not a problem I have anymore. I think I watch around three shows on anything approaching a regular basis. The rest just gets binged on a quiet weekend.

It is, and I enjoyed the second one too.

Iā€™ve mentioned this elsewhere, but Kingsman : The Secret Service is also a very good film. Directed by Matthew Vaughn, same chap who helmed Kick Ass.

I was tricked, Bear. Tricked!

I should have gotten out a lot earlier than I did. That is on me.

Itā€™s tough when ur vested. You can end up watching i.e. every episode of Californication if ur not careful. I try and make judgements early, nowadays, and get out while I still can. Iā€™m v.proud of myself that I donā€™t have to watch i.e. Walking Dead or i.e. Mad Mens or i.e. any of the dumb Arrow/Flash/Agent Carter type shows.

The latest series of Game of Thrones isnā€™t very good. Too much talk and not enough of the smut that the early episodes promised. And a bit of gratuitous violence doesnā€™t slake the thirst either.

Canā€™t wait for Ray Donovan to come back though. Liked that a lot.

Nothing wrong with Walking Dead - its got better and better the last few series.

GoTits is a little poor this time, at least it would be if Ramsey Bolton wasnā€™t such a menacing bastard.

First series of Peaky Blinders is on Netflix and is worth a watch if you missed it.

Iā€™d second Peaky Blinders. Birmingham gangster show, set in a time when the city was visually interesting. Some very decent performances from Cillian Murphy and Sam Neill give excellent performances, and I am a stickler for shit accents. Loved the thundering speech that Neill delivers to his coppers on arrival.

Wholeheartedly agree with this. The missus was well into Californication and itā€™s pure shit (which, tbf, she acknowledged) Loads of nudity being itā€™s only redeeming feature.

Iā€™ve still got a bit of Sons of Anarchy to finish, should I so wish. I do not so wish. I canā€™t be arsed, and donā€™t really give a flying about the way their unconvincing little universe ends. When shows are driven by really dumb shit, itā€™s bloody difficult to care, especially when so little care was demonstrated with the casting.

Thirded.

I actually thought the second series was much better than the first. Tom Hardyā€™s portrayal of the baker Solomons was fantastic.

Good music on Peaky Blinders too. Jack White, Nick Cave and even the original stuff by Mearl.

Well, the latest episode of Game of Thrones has now been logged into the catalogue of universes I maintain in my head. A marked improvement on last weeks episode and (drum roll) the books in quite a few areas. The Bastard continues to be a bastard. Sansa is not in a great place. Friends in the north? 'flayed not, love. This isnā€™t book informed or owt, because so many things are different at this point, but I can see Brienne being Sansaā€™s saviour. That hasnā€™t happened in the books, btw. Just guessing at this point, like everybody else.

The books are bloody long, and needlessly so in my opinion. Martin keeps his characters in one place either by ignoring them, introducing new characters or introducing new characters and ignoring them. Iā€™m not moaning that much; I loved the deep dive in the Iron Islands in the books, but the plot starts to branch and branch, and well, Iā€™m not surprised theyā€™re still not done.

No such qualms for the show. Theyā€™re ripping through it, skipping loads of the fluff and getting us to the bits that we want to see. There is a big meet tonight.

Overall, not amazed in the ā€œooh, they spent tons of money on it senseā€, but some bloody strong acting, big payoffs and dramatic game-changers made this a goodā€™un for me.

Yeah I was more ok with that episode. Stuff happened! Cersei has laid an egg + there is no Jamie to save her! Still donā€™t like sandsnakes tho, even when theyā€™re topless
