šŸ•¹ Games I am playing at the moment

Oh, good bump @btripz .

Iā€™ve been in the land of expansions recently. X-COM 2 : War of the Chosen came down in price a few weeks ago, so Iā€™ve had a wee go on that.

Whatā€™s really taken the time is Civilization IVā€™s new expansion, which is a lot deeper than the game it overhauls. Brand new is something called an Era Score, counted up at the end of each age. Civs get Era points depending on how many firsts they manage. Golden Ages trigger for top performers. Dark Ages loom for the little Lebowski urban under-achievers ( and not very proud of them are all of we ).

Moaning bastards will complain that ā€œit should have been like that from the startā€, and while Iā€™d have a measure of sympathy with that (Vanilla Civ 6 is pared down in complexity compared to many of the others), I had something like 200 hours on that thing before this expansion. It was clearly good enough.

My eldest daughter is a big fan of this too, so sent her a copy. Got an ā€œomg. youā€™re amazing.ā€ and a heart emoji. Worth Ā£25

I got full on sick of war of the chosen, the port for consoles is fucking horrible, crashes all the time deleting all your saves as it does so. Such a shame for what is essentially such a great game.

I caught Mrs G playing a little game earlier. I came into the kitchen and there she was having a go at staring at a pan full of gently steaming water.

ā€œWhat the fuck are you doing?ā€ I quite reasonably asked.

ā€œWell, they say a watched pot never boils donā€™t they, so Iā€™m watching this to see if itā€™s trueā€, she explained.

Absolutely batshit mental. This is a woman in a position of responsibility. A fifty year old mother.

I would, of course, have been more perturbed if she had been playing some dumb game on her phone or something.

Spoiler warning. An unwatched pot never boils. The water inside it does.

Youā€™re just the sort of pedant that Mrs G would stab in the face.

Iā€™ve lost count of the amount of death threats Iā€™ve gotten over the years, the vast majority coming from ms pap.

And yet I still live!

I may have become a bit addicted to gwent :lou_facepalm_2:

Got the Fortnite Battle Royale bug like everyone else. Itā€™s Hunger Games. Itā€™s free. Itā€™s the biggest game on the planet right now.

Curiousity got the better of me, and I have given it a go too. Kind of feel I should at least try the latest crazes.

Not ordinarily much of an online player, nor much of a shooter player either. Gotta admit itā€™s a pretty fun game though, can definitely see the appeal.

I am fucking shite, mind.

Not actually playing this yet, as itā€™s not out. But, my word this looks incredible. Cannot wait to get my hands on it.

Along with the rest of the woke gaming world, I am playing Dead Cells. Itā€™s a procedurally generated rogue-like Castlevania. It plays fantastically well, and has a lot of elements and weapons which just really work nicely together.

You have to start from the beginning each game. You only have one ā€œlifeā€; once your energy bar depletes, thatā€™s it. However, you can get permanent upgrades which make subsequent runs more fun.

I think itā€™s out on pretty much everything. Three thumbs up from me.

Can I just remind you that the football season has started and pretty soon the kids will be back to school.

Playing the games is better than sitting on a couch with the occasional moan of ā€œitā€™s not realā€

My kids donā€™t go to school anymore. All I will really notice is an increase in traffic. My morning run is as blissfully underpopulated as Grand Theft Auto right now.

Been awhile since this thread has been updated or curated.

Weā€™re getting to the end of 2018, so might be time to mention some games of the year.

Havenā€™t played it yet, but Iā€™m guessing Red Dead is going to be right up there.

Some things I have actually played and enjoyed this year are:-

  • Spider-Man (PS4)
  • God of War (PS4)
  • Ni No Kuni II (PS4)
  • Into the Breach (PC)
  • The Messenger (Switch)
  • Dead Cells (Switch)

What are your games of 2018?

Not Fallout 76.

Think the last decent one was New Vegas. Never really felt compelled to finish 4.

Bethesdaā€™s games have been getting progressively worse which is a big shame, easily put 100 hours each into Skyrim, Fallout 3 and New Vegas, probs played Fallout 4 for 30-40 hours tops, played 76 for 3 hours (thankfully I never payed for it) and that was enough to establish how poor it was, should have stuck with RPG format rather than try and jump on the PVP platform. I hope for Elder Scrolls 6 they realise what a clusterfuck 76 is.

New Vegas isnā€™t Bethesda. Their engine, but it was Obsidian that made that game.

I think itā€™s probably better than Fallout 3.

As to your original question I think 76 is the only release in 2018 I have played, I am still invested in Xcom 2 which takes up most of my playtime (I need help).

Finished the main game. Iā€™ve not finished the expansion yet, and I probably should.
