I caught Mrs G playing a little game earlier. I came into the kitchen and there she was having a go at staring at a pan full of gently steaming water.

“What the fuck are you doing?” I quite reasonably asked.

“Well, they say a watched pot never boils don’t they, so I’m watching this to see if it’s true”, she explained.

Absolutely batshit mental. This is a woman in a position of responsibility. A fifty year old mother.

I would, of course, have been more perturbed if she had been playing some dumb game on her phone or something.

Got the Fortnite Battle Royale bug like everyone else. It’s Hunger Games. It’s free. It’s the biggest game on the planet right now.

Curiousity got the better of me, and I have given it a go too. Kind of feel I should at least try the latest crazes.

Not ordinarily much of an online player, nor much of a shooter player either. Gotta admit it’s a pretty fun game though, can definitely see the appeal.

I am fucking shite, mind.

Along with the rest of the woke gaming world, I am playing Dead Cells. It’s a procedurally generated rogue-like Castlevania. It plays fantastically well, and has a lot of elements and weapons which just really work nicely together.

You have to start from the beginning each game. You only have one “life”; once your energy bar depletes, that’s it. However, you can get permanent upgrades which make subsequent runs more fun.

I think it’s out on pretty much everything. Three thumbs up from me.

Playing the games is better than sitting on a couch with the occasional moan of “it’s not real”

My kids don’t go to school anymore. All I will really notice is an increase in traffic. My morning run is as blissfully underpopulated as Grand Theft Auto right now.

Been awhile since this thread has been updated or curated.

We’re getting to the end of 2018, so might be time to mention some games of the year.

Haven’t played it yet, but I’m guessing Red Dead is going to be right up there.

Some things I have actually played and enjoyed this year are:-

Bethesda’s games have been getting progressively worse which is a big shame, easily put 100 hours each into Skyrim, Fallout 3 and New Vegas, probs played Fallout 4 for 30-40 hours tops, played 76 for 3 hours (thankfully I never payed for it) and that was enough to establish how poor it was, should have stuck with RPG format rather than try and jump on the PVP platform. I hope for Elder Scrolls 6 they realise what a clusterfuck 76 is.

New Vegas isn’t Bethesda. Their engine, but it was Obsidian that made that game.

I think it’s probably better than Fallout 3.

As to your original question I think 76 is the only release in 2018 I have played, I am still invested in Xcom 2 which takes up most of my playtime (I need help).

Completed the main game a few times, yet to finish the WOTC expansion due to the iron man mode being completely fucked on the PS4 port (it crashes all the time and wipes out all your saved games), I am therefore resigned to completing it on the hardest difficulty but ‘honestly’, which is fucking near on impossible when grenadier Gavstar is the first bastard all the aliens decide to fucking bullseye.

ah yeah I’m aware obsidian were involved, didn’t realise they made the whole thing. They should give Obsidian the 76 map and see what they can do with it. If it’s even salvageable.
