GCSE Results day

Big day for my 16yo daughter, I’m on tenterhooks too.

As a parent my experience of the education system over the past few years is that it’s a complete mess. It’s so complex with all the different exam boards, changes to the grading, curriculum etc.

My younger stepdaughter is getting her GCSE results today too - as with you, things have been a touch fraught, though being away in Dubrovnik for a week until yesterday certainly helped matters.

Hope your daughter’s results are all she’s hoping for.

This is an academic fallow year for our two. #1 has just finished year one of Uni, #2 is a year younger than your daughter.

Best of luck, Nobby, daughter and anyone else waiting for results today.

All the best to your various offspring.

I remember being rather apathetic about GCSE results day. I guess it’s because I used to be a massive pessimist, so virtually every grade exceeded my expectations.

Collecting A-Level results though… that was horrendous. A classic no sleep/shaking like Redknapp’s jowls combination. Guess it was the first time that something was riding on success.

Well, one proud Dad here. She got 6 A’s and 4 A*'s plus a Level 2 Distinction (whatever that means) in IT.

Distinction = north of 70% and the highest grade your kid could have achieved.

Your girl did good.

Oh, only a level 2 distinction?

Many congratulations Nobby and daughter. Whilst it’s a shame that we have to put such emphasis on them, this will open doors for her later in life.

Great job Chez Plumbs.

Cheers, and yes the ‘plumbs’ take all the credit.

My youngest daughter got 2 A*s, 2 As and 5 Bs. So proud of her. She has been suffering with anorexia and missed a lot of school a while back, This caused her a loss of confidence and extra anxiety. She was convinced she had failed maths but ended up with a B!

Thanks goodness the anorexia is under control now and these results will do wonders for her confidence!

A 3-0 win tonight will round things off nicely…

Those are excellent results under any circumstances, never mind those circumstances. Chuffed to bits for you and your daughter, Sadoldgit.

Thanks Pap. Her two elder sisters had also done well previously so she had sibling pressure to live up to as well. The poor little thing has been fretting so much over the last few months and spending all her time on her school work that I thought she would freeze when it came to the exams. Such a big relief. I feel for kids nowdays. When I was that age there wasnt so much pressure to do well at that point. I went to a Comprehensive that had only just started doing A levels so no one expected us to get any. The most O levels we did was 5 or 6 too, not the 9 or 10 they do now. I wouldnt have coped very well!

I didn’t do any better at GCSE myself, Sadoldgit. I aced everything I did afterwards. My GCSE teachers reckoned I could have swept the board if I ditched my social life.

Not to diminish the achievements of the GCSE students out there, but beyond a certain point, no-one bothers asking for them. The great thing for your daughter is despite personal setbacks, she hasn’t been held back.

What’s the next move?

3 more years before my eldest goes through this one! 4 more years until she will be on the road! My god!

It was that time you tried to do some revision at mine that probably didn’t help. My revision technique was and still is shit. Glad my last study episode only involved essays and dissertations. I have to say I am glad I don’t have to do those GCSEs so good luck to the kids and their parents

Sorry to break it any parents out there, but your kids are all stupid little shits. Even the ones with the sense to keep off my fucking lawn.

You should listen to me. I’m old and therefore for some ridiculous reason, regarded as wise(ish) based on age alone.

Congrats though to any less stupid shits out there though. They are their future. Not mine though, I’ll be a bit dead soon, congrats anyway though…Stupid little shits, always stealing loose change hanging around their grand parent’s house and pretending they don’t masturbate when I can clearly see that they do from the back window of my van parked outside the school.

What’s the deal with DNA? is it true that it gets everywhere even when you scrub everything with bleach?

She is going to college in Brighton to do her A Levels. She has an older sister at the same college and another sister starts at Brighton Uni in September so she will have plenty of support. Not sure what direction she will go in. She is a talented artist but has also done well academically. She has a good work ethic (unlike her Dad) and just needs more confidence. Hopefully she will be able to kick on from these results.

It’s tough for them trying to decide what career they want to go into. My daughter will be doing French, Chemistry, Biology and Geography at A-Level but really doesn’t know what she wants to do career wise. She’s cleaning caravans part-time during the holidays, perhaps she’ll make a career out of that. :astonished:

Its a hard call making such decisons at that age. I have told my youngest to go for the subjects that she enjoys doing most but they may not be the ones that are best for a career path in what she wants to do in the future. She lived in Apain for three years and got an A* in Spanish so that would be a no brainer. Languages are always good to have. Glad I dont have to go through this shit anymore!

when i done my gcses i got the best results in the whole of my school + got special award of £250 for doing good scores, and all my teachers was gutted cos they give me bad predictions cos i wasn’t doing courseworks or revisions, but then i just aced all their dumb exams using RAW NATURAL BRAIN POWERS and i was like IN UR FACE TEACHERS!

i mean, not to boast or anything. If it makes you all feel better my +amazing gcse results have not benefitted me at all in my subsequent careers.

Did you pass English Bear?
