Fresh from my excitement of reviewing Polish soap operas, tonight I got to watch 80āsome Legends DE Mono at the Zabiersow Village Fete.
With beer at 95pence a pint & awesome bbqādo Kielbasa it was all very nice.
So to the band. 2 original members in a 6 piece, they were the Rock Godās back in the day. They had an interesting U2 meets Hall & Oates fused with Prince, Spandau & Duran Duran original (nearly) sound. Basically generic rip offs tbh, but the Sax player did blast away into copious Baker Street quality riffs & solos.
Very tight musically but tbh I have more Pzazz on stage at Karaoke night so the locals thought it was a bit meh. I thought it was all very nice but by then at that price we had created a fair beer snake.
Interesting that back in the days bands were writing Polish hits in a Western Style, I did have a few misheard lyric moments āI donāt want a BJā being the funniest.
Good random warm up for Glastonbury & they even had Portales! All in all, well worth the free entry & the Kielbasa (Ā£1.90) made the day.
Hereās a link to the original stuff. Donāt listen while driving in case you nod off & kill someone
The Temptations Southside, Es Castell Town Square, Menorca.
LOL. Red sequinned jackets ahoy for a Motown showdown.
I am amazed that nobody in the aged audience had a massive heart attack.
Gig made even more memorable by the dazed and confused British girl wandering onto the stage for the final number and (badly) joining in with the slick dance moves of this South African retro combo.
I laughed so hard I nearly did a little squirt of wee.
Looking forward to the horse racing in the streets on Monday and the giant papier mache heads of the fiesta Saint Jaume.
All has been forgiven and normal service has been resumed. Just got back from the Thursday night at Kendal Calling and The Charlatans were amazing. Sound was great, set was great and Tim seemed to be having a great time. The crowd were happy and in party mood, really really good and I am so happy!
Tomorrow is a bit of a slow day at the Festival with only a couple of bands we want to see being We are Scientists and Catfish & the Bottlemen and then over to comedy for Jason Manford.
Off to the BBC Proms David Bowie Tribute. Should be interesting. Amanda Palmer is one of the singers. One of the few if not only singer who made me cry in a crowded Leftfield tent with her beautiful lyrics.
We are scientists were very good with a lot of energy this evening, but watch out for Catfish and the Bottlemen. I have had their album on my Spotify and did not think much of them, but live so much better and boy did they pull in and please the festival crowd. I do not think we will see them at Kendall Calling for a few years as these fellas are going to be big! Still not catching my full attention and not doing it for me, but they are for the masses.
Talking of big Jason Manford did his stand up with the sides of the marquee rolled up as so many wanted to see his 30 minutes of stand up. Was quite funny, but could barely hear him over the main stage.
Today was a very good day in the fields with the sfcsimās.
We saw the below.
Maximo Park, who were delayed on their flight from Germany, so only had a 25 minute set, but weāre still very good, but a shame really, that we did not get a full set.
The Darkness, who 13 years ago, when they headlined Reading I could not stand them! But today I thought they were pretty good and entertaining. The lead singer was quite funny. I think they played the whole of their debut album. As the lead singer said 'well what can is the point of playing songs that none of you have heard!
The Hives, were very good, very lively and very well dressed as ever. Really fun band and a great set. Never seen them in their own gig, only ever at festivals, but would like to.
Madness - what a show as per normal, got the crowd going, very easy to jig around to, not having to really ādanceā. Make the whole set look really easy. Brilliant and such a good relaxed friendly crowd every time I see them, just fun! Like a big house of fun!
Right, that was the last day, just back from a great 4 days of music.
Band of Skulls - love them as they always say āWe are the band of skulls, from Southamptonā. Also they are a good guitar band.
Lightening Seeds - old classics, really good to just sit back and chill at a festival with.
Noel Gallagher and his high flying birds - love his music really good to listen to, so, well Noel Gallagher. Always interacts with the crowd and jokes about. Also you get an oasis sing along during the gig as well.
James, BB, Proclaimers and The Selecter should be cool.
I saw Seth Lakeman supporting Bill a few years backā¦
He wandered out with a fiddle so my heart sank, there were also far too many 'folk musiciansā on the stage for my liking - but he was bloody brilliant.
