Had an all company get together last week (hence why I was so quiet, Iām sure you all missed me loads).
Bananarama were special guests. One of 'em was missing. It was fun, if not slightly tragic.
Saw the Maccabees last week, they are moving up to the next level. They remind me of Arcade Fire a little, with the added depth to their music.

Got Ash on 5th, Fratellis 14th and Charlatans 17th December, all in Newcastle.
Stone Roses, Frank Turner and MUSE for 2016, so far.
Loving being able to do gigs again. I missed it over the last 5 years.
Will try and take in Leeds and V Fest this yearā¦ if they can get togeher a half decent line up.
Love those guys. I reckon they may be one of the bands I have seen live the most times. I struggle to think of many bands that have improved so consistently as they have. Each release, each tour just seems to see them moving up another level.
From seeing them open the Carling Stage at Reading back in '06, a bunch of shy young men, Orlando dressed in a sequin blazer, dancing around in an Ian Curtis style jerking fashion, blasting through their tracks at breakneck speed. To the much more assured, composed and confident band you see today. The sound now is so big, so well considered.
Had a brief chat with a couple of them on occasion too, a really love bunch. Seen them 3 times this year (Coronet, Glasto & Reading) and seeing them again at Brixton in Jan.

Yes they are a band I have seen a few times, but only the 5. I think I saw them at Reading that year, or around that time anyway. Saw the support Kasabian a while back this year as well. They said they were struggling to get the album done, but I think they wanted perfection.
They are a band I could go and see the next day again, love them.
Thats enough loving for the Maccabees!!! Well maybe.

Just found out Mini Mansions tour is cancelled 
Itās a shame, was looking forward to seeing them on Friday, but given their links to Queens and therefore Eagles of Death Metal, itās understandable really.
Oh bums. Looks like I bought tickets to see We Are Scientists (December, Engine Rooms) whilst drunk on Friday night.

Last time I went to the Guildhall was more than 10 years ago and the sound was shit. Has it changed in the intervening time?

Saw Seasick Steve there a few years ago and swore I would never go again. It is dogshit.
I am surprised that you were surprised.
I worked at the Guildhall for 13 years on and off so have a very soft spot for the place. Love the architecture. Not so much the carpet. I saw Primal Scream there about 6 years ago and have to say the sound was appalling. Felt like my ears were bleeding. I now wear ear plugs which make all venues sound a whole load better. Trouble is a lot of these venues were built for different purpose, music and shows and you canāt do much to change the building as theyāre often listed.
Oh and I saw Frank Turner on Thursday at Ally Pally. Even with someone pouring half a cider down my front on the first song I had the best time. I could see ( no 6 foot guys or gals in front of me) for pretty much the whole show. He was relentless as ever and went off crowds surfing near the end. Now seen him 11 times, 7 since September 2014. Total fangirl.
Yeah the city is and has been crying out for a decent sized purpose built concert venue for a long time. The Mayflower has over the years seen a lot of good rock concerts but that finished in the late '70s when the season long West End musical bookings took over the place.
I really canāt remember a good concert sound at The Guildhallā¦it seems bands only play there once, for good reason.
Itās frustrating to see building work going on in the cityā¦West Quay especially should have included a concert/arts/conference hall in one of the phases of the development.
Bit late with this one, but went to see The Charlatans in Newcastle on 17th December, having seen them a countless amount of times 10-15, this was the first time in about 8 years (mainly as their ticket prices are always off the scale). This gig was pretty poor. Not sure if it was bad sound in the venue, but they were not doing it for me on this occasion, just never seemed to hit the groove. I think this will be the last time I purchase tickets for their own gig, but will see them if at a festival.
Got my MUSE tickets today, now I know this will be mind blowing as per usual.

Saw Charlatans on 19th at one of my fave venues, Brixton Academy. Really great show. Other half who has been a new fan felt it was the best we have seen from them.
Iād like to see Beans on Toast in Camden tonight where Frank Turner is going to be. But after a day of work may not make it.
