šŸ—£ Gigs

Fucking weird day today. Was in the middle of shopping in Sainsburyā€™s Carlisle. Got a text saying get to the Sands Centre Carlisle, as you can get tickets in person for the Stone Roses on Wednesday.

Well after ditching my trolly, I headed for the Sands Centre as it is only 2 minutes away. Left the car, ran to the queue and contacted my wife to bring some merch. She brought my t-shirt and the confirmation for the Manchester gigs. Got my wrist band in the queue and an hour later had 2 tickets for the stone roses on Wednesday 8th.

A very strange day indeed, but get the fuck in, the Stone Roses in a small venue. Anyone want 2 seated tickets for Manchester on Saturday 18th in Manchester?

BBC 6 Music sent half of their DJā€™s to Paris for Radiohead. First gig in 5 years, Iā€™m a bit biased but they do make the best music.

Seen them twice in the past couple of weeks. They are incredible.

I cannot think of another band that have the same levels of adoration and such a huge fan base, whilst also rejecting everything that comes with that. They are a band that do everything on their own terms - and whilst that can at times be frustrating, it is partly what makes them, them.

Their Primavera set was incredible. You go into a Radiohead set not expecting many ā€˜hitsā€™, these are used sparingly - almost as a bone thrown to fans for letting them do what they want. There were a few at the Roundhouse, but that was mostly a showcase for the latest album (which is fair enough - and still 'kin enjoyable). I went into this hoping for one maybe two of the big hitters (hopefully different from the Roundhouse ones), I was blown away by what was offered up.

National Anthem

No Surprises (played only a few times since the 90ā€™s)

Pyramid Song

Karma Police

Idioteque

Street Spirit (Fade Out)

Paranoid Android

Nude

And then, an unplanned second Encore, consisting of just Creep - didnā€™t think there was much chance of seeing that. Amazing.

Another really amazing thing about both these shows, was the quiet moments. Tracks such as Daydreaming were perfectly observed by the crowd. During the momentary pauses, you could have heard a pin drop. Perhaps not entirely surprising in a small venue, packed with diehards - but at a festival, this really was a hair raising experience.

Radiohead really are a one-of-a-kind, many bemoan they arenā€™t the guitar band they started as in the 90ā€™s - but this, I feel, really misses just how special they have become.

As a long haired man myself, I have nothing but respect for it.

I dunno what his ponytail is made of, but I refuse to accept that itā€™s hair.

I know that the Stone Roses are not everyoneā€™s cup of tea, but my god they were fucking awesome tonight. only announced on Saturday, first come first served basis in person. 1,800 capacity. Honestly for the whole package, one of the best gigs I have been to, so intimate, beat Heaton Park.

My Stone Roses itch has well and truly been scratched.

Loving the Eden Project festival on the red button BBC1, Duran Duran. Great stuff after a bottle of red!

I thought Le Bon sounded a little bit screechy at timesā€¦

Did not notice to much, as I was watching backing dancers/jiggers/dancers!

So then, I headed off to see Coldplay last night feeling a bit meh. I wanted to take my kids as they love them but I also wanted to watch the footy. I also am not a great fan of the latest album. However, depsite clearly missing a great result, the gig was actually awesome. Fortunately they didnt play too much of the new stuff and breathed life into the oldies. There was a nice tribute to Ali along the way as well as a cover of Heroes as a nod to Bowie. They make a lot of money from their stadium tours but clearly spend a lot of it on production and threw in several kitchen sinks as well. Everyone was given a wrist band that had various colured lights that we operated automatically and the effect in the stadium was amazing. They played on a small stage in the middle of the stadium (not uncommon) as well as the main stage but also played on a small stage at the far end of the stadium for those at the back, which was a nice touch, during the encore. As much as I was gutted that I missed the faces of the gobby Welsh gits who have been rubbishing us all week, I had a great evening and my kids are happy bunnies. :lou_sunglasses:

Sounds like the same set up they did a few years ago with the different stages and wrist bands. if itā€™s not brokeā€¦

Yes, didnt realise they did the wrist band thing before. The screens were amazing. HD pictures instead of the poor quality pics you used to get. Having said that they didnt play much of the news stuff I have just found out they played 7 tracks from the latest CD. As Ygritte might say, you know nothing Sadoldgit!

My partner has been a big Coldplay fan. Weā€™ve been to many a gig. But not this year. We will probably see them at Glastonbury. He didnā€™t buy the latest album. So no real idea what their new stuff is! So probably be like you Sadoldgit

Whilst I wasnt blown away by the latest album the stuff they played live certainly worked. They really have the whole stadium thing nailed. Iā€™d love to be super cool and say they were pants but actually it was a great concert even though I prefered them when they were Indie and not Pop. My eldest is going to Glastonbury and was saying that now she has seen Coldplay she will probably blow them out and watch EW&F insteadā€¦but judging by the texts I received today I have a feeling she will be back to Coldplay again!

Fresh from my excitement of reviewing Polish soap operas, tonight I got to watch 80ā€™some Legends DE Mono at the Zabiersow Village Fete.

With beer at 95pence a pint & awesome bbqā€™do Kielbasa it was all very nice.

So to the band. 2 original members in a 6 piece, they were the Rock Godā€™s back in the day. They had an interesting U2 meets Hall & Oates fused with Prince, Spandau & Duran Duran original (nearly) sound. Basically generic rip offs tbh, but the Sax player did blast away into copious Baker Street quality riffs & solos.

Very tight musically but tbh I have more Pzazz on stage at Karaoke night so the locals thought it was a bit meh. I thought it was all very nice but by then at that price we had created a fair beer snake.

Interesting that back in the days bands were writing Polish hits in a Western Style, I did have a few misheard lyric moments ā€œI donā€™t want a BJā€ being the funniest.

Good random warm up for Glastonbury & they even had Portales! All in all, well worth the free entry & the Kielbasa (Ā£1.90) made the day.

Hereā€™s a link to the original stuff. Donā€™t listen while driving in case you nod off & kill someone

Polish Rock

Sorry copy not working on my fone for some reason

Sitting in the shitter at the Love Revisited gig at the Brook.

Thereā€™s about 50 of us, so all we need to do is support the band.

Small venue

Small feeling.
