Well I first saw them whilst at work at Southampton Guildhall when they headline a NME tour and Mr Brightaide was everywhere. I nabbed a NME poster of Brandon Flowers on that tour. Still have it somewhere.
Scala was June 2011. S
Koko was September 2012. It was filmed for something and we got free tickets.
The Garage was June 2013 and was a secret gig after they just played Wembley stadium. Weād been at the stadium and I saw a tweet and we headed over, paid a tenner and had a blast.
My video of Glamourous Indie Rock and Roll from the night now has 21k views.
There are threads for multiple issues. My love of the Killers gigs here and my hate for idiots on phones on another. I like to make sure things are kept in their proper threads!
Went to the O2 last night for the Foo Fighters. This is first Arena gig since the Manchester bombing. The security is rachetted up with 2 metal detectors (if you have a large ish bag) before getting into the arena. I usually remember when Iāve been told to take ID and donāt remember that for this gig so didnāt take it. Itās been in the news today that lots of people were turned away as they didnāt have photo ID. When we arrived about 8pm there were massive queues still but got in before the band played. With no ID check either. My partner would have been mega annoyed if we hadnāt go in. So now I must take my passport to gigs just in case.
They played just under 3 hours with no breaks. You definately get your monies worth! A few new songs and plenty of all the ones youāve heard of. I have no idea of their titles or half the words but my partner enjoyed it so thatās what counts.
I purchased two tickets for a gig in Paris in March and we will have a little weekend away. Quite excited about it. Eurostar is just down the road from us so hoping it will be an easy trip. My GSCE french helped me navigate the site. It was worth getting that D for it.
I am meant to be bilingual, I was in the top set for French at school. But had an appalling teacher ( @pap can confirm) who although French didnāt really help much. My GCSE French oral compromised of me saying ājānai comprend pasā to every question. Nailed it.
Off to see Lorde tomorrow. Obviously, I make no secret about my love for her music.
But krGF is also a big fan, and was pretty gutted we missed her at Glasto (clashing with xx/Radiohead was always gonna be tricky). What she (still) doesnāt know is that about the time the Glasto line up came up, Lorde announced a tour, or that her super-awesome-thoughtful-caring-handsome partner snagged her tickets.
Absolutely. I am the one who gets all the tickets in our house. I also point out gigs he will love and I donāt want to go to. Heās seen some Bowie collaborators recently which heās pretty chuffed with but I just donāt want to see. I should have a zillion brownie points by now.
Donāt know if this belongs here but currently at The Nuffield Theatre on the Uni campus watching a play set to the music of Ian Dury.
Itās called Reasons to be Cheerful and if you like Dury give it a go.
Itās a really quirky production featuring apparently abled bodied performers alongside performers with various disabilities.
A bit like Mamma Mia (ABBA musical*) the songs are awkwardly shoehorned into the narrative but when they managed to fit Plaistow Patricia in context I forgave them everything.
