šŸ—£ Gigs

great review.

Muse on Thursday for us. Sure Iā€™ll need sunglasses for lots of flashy lights.

Off to see Love Revisited at The Brook in July - the last band of Arthur Lee and Love. Saw him there over 10 years ago. (Flyd Owl will be a long in a minute to tell me how long ago it was). I know itā€™s over 10 years because itā€™s 10 years since he died.

Going to see Graham Parker in September (I think) at a tiny arts centre near Newbury where I saw The Handsome Family. Great venue, intimate and friendly.

I shall be attending Explosions in the Sky at the Royal Albert Hall tonight.

Despite having waited about 5 years to see them live, Iā€™m approaching this with some trepidation. Mostly unfair on their part, but given their style (ambient, atmospheric, instrumental), combined with a spectacular reemergence of my insomnia and the setting. I fear it might all get a bit much.

I was expecting an intense show as it was, but this may be more than I had bargained for.

Arrived in Brighton on Monday a day early for the Calexico gig at The Brighton Dome on Tuesday evening. Parked the car and got our bags for the short walk to our hotel. Just outside the car park were three decorated telephone junction boxes and this was one of them.

The observant among you will have spotted the Sotonian Centurion badge. :lou_lol:

Tuesday evening: As usual the Calexico gig was fantasticā€¦yes I know Iā€™ve been a fan for nearly 20 years but they never disappoint, I try to be unbiased_ :lou_wink_2:_ ā€¦in fact I think they get better every time we see them. For the last 5 years we have been lucky enough to be on the guest list through a link with band leader John Convertino. Hereā€™s a picture ofā€¦left to rightā€¦

My good lady Jacqui, Friend Sue, John C, myself and Jairo Zavala (guitar/pedal steel guitar).

Honourable mention to Gaby Moreno too who was support last nightā€¦great voice and with the other members of Calexico did a killer cover of Ry Cooderā€™s ā€œAcross the Borderlineā€

Great pics 'Slowlane!

As for Explosions, they were brilliant. Itā€™s quite a new experience (for me, at least) to go to a gig and here a few words at the start

ā€œHi, weā€™re from Texas. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to play such an incredible venueā€.

And then not a single word for their hour and a half set.

I started a more in depth review, itā€™s something I feel I want to write. But thereā€™s a lot there, they are a band of significant personal importance. I drafted something, and it got too long, and personal. Itā€™d be boring for anyone else to read.

So, just that it was an intensely emotional experience, and thoroughly enjoyable at that.

Wow, that sounds like a special night KRG. It wouldnā€™t bore me if you posted your review, but Iā€™d understand if it was too personal.

'slowlane Iā€™m very jealous. Saw them on the last tour in London which was stunning. The brass section is amazing live. By the way, that pic needs to go on Intinikiā€™s gig photos thread. Also can I have Sueā€™s number (asking for a friend).

Iā€™d read it KRG!

No you wouldnā€™t - youā€™d just stare blankly at the pictures until something shiny distracted you.

Yep sheā€™s a honeyā€¦Iā€™ll ask Vinny, her husband who was taking the picture. I think your friend might not be lucky. :lou_wink_2:

OK I shall give it a crack. Itā€™ll have to wait til next week, off to Berlin on a stag as we speak - so this may be dependent on me coming back in one piece.

Got my tickets yesterday for Kasabian at the King Power stadium. It is going to a huge party thatā€™s for sure!

I see that his wife has finally decided to leave him.

Oh! Gigs!!

This month, Richard Ashcroft at the Roundhouse, Dave Gorman for some laughs, and end with Common People in Southampton. Looking forward to seeing Duran Duran who I had posters of as a child (I was probably about 8 or 9 years old). Also going to the theatre! To see the Maids. Vod from Fresh Meat and Crazy eyes from Orange is the New Black along with Lady Edith from Downton are in the play. I probably should learn their real names.

Would love to see Duran Duran again. Loving them at the moment. Same for the other 2 you mention. Nice treble that!

Not sure what the Maids is, but will check it out!

Saw Lee Nelson, suited and booted at Dorchester Arts centre/corn exchange last Friday. The guy is such a quick wit. Most of the show was interaction with the small audience. A few predictable jokes thrown in, but most of it was fairly off the cuff stuff. Would definitely go see again as highly unlikely to see two shows the same using that format.

Off to see Maverick Sabre at The Engine Rooms on Saturday night :lou_lol:

Saw him at V Festival a few years back. Now work with his sister.

Not got any gigs planned for a while, though now have tickets for both Common People and 2000 Trees Festival.

Only interested in one act at Common People i.e. Public Enemy, but who can say no to a festival when itā€™s 10 minutes walk from your flat?

After-party at mine! :lou_lol:
