🗣 Gigs

Went to Queen Extravaganza at Pompey Guildhall last Sunday - Outstanding musicians reproducing the sound to a tee.

If you’re a Queen fan but don’t like a majority of the tribute bands and their cheesiness, these guys are a must see.

This gig was a celebration of the 40 year anniversary of A Night at the Opera. The material was all prior to and up to 1975, and I have to say, includes some of my favourite Queen stuff.

Would gladly pay to go see again.

Going to see them this weekend in Carlisle

Have you seen Queen with Adam Lambert, Mango-B?

Not really my thing, but a good mate went (masssive Queen fan) and said it was amazing.

No it is one and I mean next weekend

Just heading into town to get comfortably numb before Frank Turner this evening at the Guildhall.

Don’t know why, but I haven’t looked forward to a gig so much for a long time.

Well, well. In early 2006 I handed a folded ticket (worth 5 or 6 pounds) to the doorman of the Nexus; a student-favoured dive of a rock club sadly lost to the march of ‘progress’.

I stood with my nose pressed against the stage as a stocky, dreadlocked man towered over me. His band played a dirty, scuzzy brand of metal brimming with an infectious reggae vibe and rhythm.

That band was Skindred and on Wednesday - almost a decade on - I witnessed them slay an audience 10 times the size of the Nexus crowd with a set worthy of just about any arena in the land.

My, how they’ve grown.

He puts on such a good show, it’s a bit relentless as he just doesn’t take a break. But love watching him.

Colleagues at work were shocked that I would see a band/singer 10 plus times.

Suede next week.

If you like a band there is not a limit to it.

Of course, Dub War were better.

Every Time I Die were pretty mental at The Talking Heads last night. Ended the gig with both footprints and blood upon my person, not to mention a very tender shoulder, a sizeable bump on the back of my head and a little mild concussion.

Epic.

Waiting for the Guns N Roses tour dates to come through any day now. I think I will have to get tickets for this one.

Saw them ‘back in the day’ - they were fucking good.

Off to see Teeth of the Sea this week. Should be full on. New album is a monster.

Headed out to Roundhouse for some heighten security (sure it’s the first time I’ve been metal detectored going into a gig).

First half they played their new album with a film playing in the foreground. Quite haunting. Then a bit of a break and onto the hits. Over two hours too. Unfortunately a giant happened to stand in front of me.

I’ve had some trying moments in recent weeks. Deadlines. Scraping an alloy on a hire car. The death of a papmobile. In all cases, a happy little bubble floats up, pops, and says “you’ve got Glastonbury tickets, guv”.

And all is good.
