🗣 Gigs

We tried to get tickets (other half like NG) but I wanted to see SFA. Hadn’t been a great fan but luckily got paid to see them one at the Guildhall and loved them. Saw them at Victorious festival - one of my friends really did not enjoy them.

I was a film student in Newport in the mid 90’s. Newport (south wales) and not New York, or even IOW it was a bit of a cultural backwater. A friend talked me into seeing a Junior Wells gig in town at a small hotel venue. Maybe 15-20 people there and a small guy watching in the corner, he got on stage towards the end. The small guy being Van Morrison and played out the last 30 mins. Strange but amazing night.

Just watched three early albums with Gary Numan at The Forum this week - for a moment I was 16 again, listening to the soundcheck down the side of The Gaumont, buying singles in the corner of the bus station, and watching Phil Boyer bang in the goals.

It was cool.

Just landed 2 X Stone Roses tickets for Manchester in June 2016. Will have to be pretty good to top the Heaton Park gigs but still woohoo. Never thought I would get them. Sold out in an hour this morning!

Just happened to be cutting up a lemon!

Went to Queen Extravaganza at Pompey Guildhall last Sunday - Outstanding musicians reproducing the sound to a tee.

If you’re a Queen fan but don’t like a majority of the tribute bands and their cheesiness, these guys are a must see.

This gig was a celebration of the 40 year anniversary of A Night at the Opera. The material was all prior to and up to 1975, and I have to say, includes some of my favourite Queen stuff.

Would gladly pay to go see again.

Going to see them this weekend in Carlisle

Have you seen Queen with Adam Lambert, Mango-B?

Not really my thing, but a good mate went (masssive Queen fan) and said it was amazing.

No it is one and I mean next weekend

Just heading into town to get comfortably numb before Frank Turner this evening at the Guildhall.

Don’t know why, but I haven’t looked forward to a gig so much for a long time.

Well, well. In early 2006 I handed a folded ticket (worth 5 or 6 pounds) to the doorman of the Nexus; a student-favoured dive of a rock club sadly lost to the march of ‘progress’.

I stood with my nose pressed against the stage as a stocky, dreadlocked man towered over me. His band played a dirty, scuzzy brand of metal brimming with an infectious reggae vibe and rhythm.

That band was Skindred and on Wednesday - almost a decade on - I witnessed them slay an audience 10 times the size of the Nexus crowd with a set worthy of just about any arena in the land.

My, how they’ve grown.

He puts on such a good show, it’s a bit relentless as he just doesn’t take a break. But love watching him.

Colleagues at work were shocked that I would see a band/singer 10 plus times.

Suede next week.

If you like a band there is not a limit to it.

Of course, Dub War were better.

Every Time I Die were pretty mental at The Talking Heads last night. Ended the gig with both footprints and blood upon my person, not to mention a very tender shoulder, a sizeable bump on the back of my head and a little mild concussion.

Epic.
