Glenda and Redflaps

Two things from this article:-

  1. Why do all the pundits try and get our best players to leave. Surely playing well in a shite team is better than playing well in a good team??

  2. Yeah right Harry, we believe you.

Don’t mess with Hoddle. After all that time spent tanning himself in Spain, he now has perfect sofa camouflage.

He could be anywhere.

“As for Le Tissier, Hoddle felt he needed to join a bigger club than Southampton to raise the standard of his game.”

On what level does a genius need to raise the standard of his game?!

Did anyone see that programme on Sky on Sunday evening?

Le Tiss reckoned that the reason Hoddle had a problem picking him for England was because Hoddle didn’t like the comparisons being made between the two of them.

If this is true then Hoddle must be an even more flawed character than I suspected.

It was a commonly held sentiment, and probably worth remembering that at the time, Le Tiss played all of his home games in a 15K seater stadium in a team that was perpetually struggling for Premier League survival. The perception (rightly or wrongly) was that MLT was resting on his laurels and could have gone further in the game if he’d had better players around him.

I don’t necessarily agree with that perception, and the prevailing attitude hasn’t really changed. When our players are talked about, it’s usually in relation to them going somewhere “bigger and better”. Hopefully, last season will have illustrated that the grass really isn’t greener on the other side, and cemented our growing reputation as a decent club to play for.

But it hasn’t though Pap, after Mané’s hattrick on Saturday Chris Sutton (I know, I know) suggested that he might now have caught the attention of the “bigger” clubs! FFS

I get that, and I remember it all at the time. But I think sometimes something is so good, that those questions become an irrelevancy.

I think it was more about the style of play for the England team at that time. All about tempo and physicality. Despite how well he was playing, he was always a bit laconic on the pitch up until the bursts of genius.

Massive loss though, would have loved to have seen him taking the piss on the international stage.
