🗡 🎧 ⌚ Goaty Gadgets

My main set of headphones are Monster Inspiration noise cancellers. Don’t use the noise cancelling feature that much, but it is bloody handy for long haul flights.

Much prefer these to Beats. They’ve also outlasted every other set of headphones I’ve ever had.

Haha, more expensive HDMI cables make that big a difference? Mine are pretty basic, as I was always sceptical about that.

While it shouldn’t be an issue, what with the digital you-either-get-it-or-you-don’t transmission mechanism, I’ve found some of my cheaper cables to fail over time. Sound, video or all go. The 40UKP multi-metre gold lined jobbie that I bought ten years ago is still going strong.

Yeah, really cheap HDMI cables are shite but you should have to pay more than £10 for a good one, and don’t be fooled by the godl plated ones. It makes no difference it’s s digital signal with error correction so that quality of contact is pretty much irrelevant.

I bought some of them there Veho headphones and I like them, not sure I’d spend over £30 on a set though.

Eurgh, wish I hadn’t asked. Now I’m going to end up spending on new ones now. FFS.

Cheers though BBB (& pap, sorry posted this before your post had come through).

Beats are shite. I was between headphones for a while (had my bag with my Senheisser’s in stolen) so ‘borrowed’ my step-sisters Beats. They are terrible. It’s just all bass, and everything else just sounds poor.

I do miss those Senheissers, they were rather pretty - which obviously makes all the difference.

BTW that should should have been shouldn’t!!

Don’t buy a curved one unless you are going to sit right in front of it!!

I bought a Veho bluetooth subwoofer after reading positive reviews. RRP is £200 but I paid £80 and it is better than most of the big branded shit which costs plenty more.

I too research the hell out of anything techy before buying!

My Smartwatch is probably my most OTT gadget purchase. I was cynical right up to the point of receiving it, but liked the simple design - plus it didn’t cost me an awful lot more than a reasonable-looking digital watch.

Key benefits?

  • Being able to swiftly check notifications whilst at work or driving (inadvertent side benefit - my phone battery lasts longer as I’m not switching the screen on every minute or two).

  • Also handy for checking lists via Evernote whilst shopping.

  • Step tracking. Running route tracking via GPS (this can be fed into Strava or [insert your tracking app here]).

  • Can direct myself via Google Maps without taking my phone out of my pocket.

  • Music controls. Again, useful in the office but again reduces fiddling with my phone. Especially cool when I’m playing music through my Sonos speaker as I can then control music across the flat remotely.

  • Changeable watch faces. I get bored very quickly.

  • ‘Silent’ vibrating alarms - helpful if I need to get up at a different time to my girlfriend.

  • Saying ‘OK Google’ and then searching for things on the Internet or sending a text message via voice commands feels like I’m in the future.

Probably my biggest abuse of this technology was when I needed to check which of my brake light bulbs was out. I pointed my phone at the rear of my car and left it there, then pressed the brake pedal and used the watch’s ‘remote camera’ feature to view a feed of what my phone could see. Could’ve asked someone passing to do it, but that would’ve been less fun.

No that is geeky to the extreme and you should be compimented for your thinking!! What’s the battery life like, Very are selling them for £90 ATM.

You can also see that it has been well used.

I’m getting two days a time out of mine - though when I went to London the other day it went through slightly more than 50% battery. I honestly thought it’d be a faff charging it so regularly, but I have to stick my phone on every day so another 5 seconds on top of that doesn’t hurt. I just leave two USB micro chargers plugged in next to the bed.

Recently I’ve been topping it up in the morning before work. It’s back at 100% in under half an hour.

In 1970 I spent an arm and a leg on these…40 quid. :lou_surprised:

They were amazing for their time…great bass (which at the time was all we wanted) but at the end of side one of an LP your neck muscles gave out and your head slumped to one side. You always knew when it was time to get replacement ear-cushions as there would be the tell-tale trail of oil down the side of your face.

I still don’t really get the whole smartwatch thing. It all seems a tad gimmicky.

So, obviously I really want an Apple Watch.

Nope, not going to rant about Apple…

ha, that’s fair.

All my gear is apple (iPhone, iPad, Macbook) so it would make much more sense to go that route.

Get they aren’t for everyone, but it works for me. And they look pretty, which as above, is v important.

Yeah, I understand why people go the Apple route, just for me I want a little bit more flexibility with what I want to do with my device so I haven’t gone that route.

Bought my missus an iPad mini because of the ease of use. etc. etc. and I find it really hard to use, maybe because I have gone the android route, people say it is an intuitive interface but it isn’t for me.

Even though I have an ipad and use it quite a bit, I did not buy it (was free from work) and Apple can fuck right off. Unique power connection is ridiculous but so is refusing to accept Bluetooth connections from Android devices, If that is designed to make households / friends move towards all Apple eqpt, well tough shit because when the Ipad dies, I will move that to Android to match all the phones in the house.

FWIW, Mrs Bucks works for O2 and they have shifted a miniscule number of watches, Apple or otherwise. Things like Fitbit are much more popular.

I love my gadgets and I know its sad but I absolutely love my apple watch - its not an essential of course it isn’t but the taptic notifications are brilliant as its the exercise monitoring. Texting email and maps are brilliant on it.

Can’t remember who said TVs but My Samsung 3D TV knocks spots of anything Ive ever bought and I’d buy samsung again when we go to 4k - its a high end model but its worth every penny for film quality/sky HD and PS4 - coupled with the sony cinema system with the golf ball size speakers.

Do any of these headphones doa decent volume boost - I like my music on teh loud side and the apple devices limit the volume to below my pleasure zone ?

PS TCK are you serious about hunt sab ? , if so I salute you sir
