Goodbye Ralph

Ralph’s ragbag Team Europe squad easily defeated fancied Sweden 4-2 in the NHL’s tournament. Europe will face Canada in the finals.

Disirregardless of the outcome of the finals, Ralph has now most certainly been shortlisted by a goodly number of NHL clubs and will be one of the first replacement coaches hired this season.

As one who has followed the NHL for 50 years, I expect Ralph to “never say never” and depart the Saints before Christmas.

Wasn’t his remit to push the Saints ‘brand’ in the US and get us better partnerships i.e. UA and Virgin? Correct me if I’m wrong I’d say he’s done that and if he leaves good luck to him. I’m sure he’s a better fit for ice hockey anyway, and I mean that in a positive way.

Meh, it’s not all that hard.

I know nothing about the NHL so can’t comment on the liklehood of him leaving but he’s done good by us. He steadied the ship after NC’s departure and rekindled Kat’s emotional involvement with the club. Add to that the sponsership deals and I’d say that’s a pretty good shift.

Good luck to him in whatever he decides to do, though I get the impression he’s not the type of guy who places much emphasis on luck.

I hope he stays tho’, for the continuity mainly.

Top clip Pap :lou_lol: Seems to be alot of that type of ‘marketing’ going on in the States. But maybe that’s a topic for another thread.

Agree – the major issue for Liebherr and her staff is that they should reasonably be expected to manage an orderly transition of Ralph to his successor. After yesterday’s hockey result, I believe that this transition will take place sooner than many might expect.

I wonder who Liebherr will select as his successor…

True. I suspect his replacement will be someone I’ve never heard of, as hinted to in my original comment I only had an inkling of what Ralph actually did here as I never really paid too much attention. I’m sure I will pay his successor an equal amount of attention.

I’m not really sure either but I imagine in his role as chairman, being a bit anonymous to the outside world is a good sign. As a fan you only tend to hear from the CB of your club when something’s gone tits up.

My mate who is a Wet Spam fan, says all of his matchday mates have gone into meltdown and are demanding everyone’s heads on a platter…now.

What makes it funnier is that none of them can come up with a coherent idea about what to do except spend big in January…not realising it’s a long time until then…particularly with the team they’ve currently got.

laugh? I almost did a small wee

As the non-executive chairman of the cllub, Ralph would have had no real role in the day-to-day running things. His main remit was on the marketing side and, as someone else said, he appears to have done a good job there. As for a replacement, it’s worth remembering that whoever is offered it this role won’t change. So, should Ralph head off to coach ice hockey, I’d expect to see us appoint someone with plenty of business experience, certainly sport-related and possibly football-related, who won’t want to be running things but will be the figurehead and public face of the club.
