I am weird because

Everyone’s a little crazy in their own way. Some people warm teapots, others roll cheese down a hill, but we’ve all got our quirks, and probably quite a few.

I love weird. Always used to find it both hilarious and a badge of honour when I’d got labelled “odd” in less civilised places.

My starter for ten.

I am weird because I used to laugh at Richard Whiteley’s jokes in Countdown. No-one understood it. Everyone else in the house would be groaning along with the audience. I’m not sure whether I actually liked the jokes more, or the fact that he kept persisting despite dying a metaphorical death every single day.

I’m weird because of that. Are you weird, and why?

Y’know how PlayStation/Xbox/Steam games dish out achievements as you play through a game? Yeah, well I used to collect those.

It started several months after Sony added their copycat ‘trophy’ system to the PS3. Before then I’d not been too bothered about completionism but for whatever reason (as I played through Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Burnout Paradise and Wipeout HD) something clicked - and I became near-obsessed with finishing my games to 100%.

It wasn’t some sort of World of Warcraft-esque addiction. I simply used whatever gaming time I could fit into life for one central purpose. However when Lovefilm did gaming rentals I did play through some absolute shite for easy number boosting. At one point I was actually in the top 100 in the world and top 20 in the UK.

Here’s my account stats as it stands:

In short, the above shows that I’ve completed 224 different full retail releases across the PS3, PS4 and PS Vita consoles. Quite surprised to see that I’m still in the top 60 in the UK after all this time!

In the last couple of years it simply hasn’t been possible to keep up. Truth be told, I’ve not had the desire to either. I still try to eke as much out of my games as possible, though now if it’s taking too long to finish 100% of the tasks in a game I’ll happily leave it be.

… getting a strange liking for some types of country music as I get older (although you could argue that this is not so wierd considering Dylan and Young have dabbled there and Cash is also a genius, I play and build acoustic guitars…) but lately I have been watching ‘Nashville’ - not sure if that is wierd or shameful… but it means I dont sleep easy at night.

You’ll find this out as the wrinkles kick in, but it becomes very difficult to justify game time as you get older. Also, unless it’s fucking awesome, it can feel a bit pointless. At this stage of my life something I’ve rescued so many princesses and saved so many virtual worlds that something has to be incredibly special to go through that rigmarole again.

you’re my hero pap :lou_smiley:

I go to pubs I have never been to before, to meet people I have never met or spoken to, where our only prior connection is we have posted some comments on the same internet forum.

Fucking hatstand.

I bet the medical staff at Bucksamental Hospital make you use safety mittens to type these posts. Weirdo.

I did that once, met random strange people in a garden - stunned them with a lucky premonition and then made my excuses.

On top of that, you’re weird because you love the default avatar.

Are you seriously suggesting that a good pot of tea can be produced without warming the pot? Weirdo.

We all have our quirks. My ever-loving wife (using that expression, pinched from Damon Runyon, could class as one of mine) considers that I have more quirks than the quirkiest thing on the planet Quirk. Here are two of them.

First, I like to abbreviate names of things, places, etc. using the last syllable of their name. Thus, I might do some food shopping in the 'bury’s, the 'trose or the 'sco, though I’d generally steer clear of the last-mentioned. This habit infuriates my ever-loving wife and her daughters, who tell me to speak properly.

Second, I like to invent my own rhyming slang for things, often made up on the spot. I might, for instance, need to pick up a few Zolas whilst I’m at the 'bury’s, or a bottle of the old Gertrude should I venture into the 'bins. This habit infuriates my ever-loving wife and her daughters, who tell me to speak properly.

I have plenty of odd quirks and idiosyncracies. Strangely, a fair few of them are clothing related.

  1. Dates back to my childhood and has stayed with me. No idea why, but I cannot have shoelaces that are different lengths. As a kid, I would seriously flip out if they were different lengths. It’s less of an issue now, but I will spend an unnecessary amount of time adjusting them.

  2. Cuffs. Cuffs on jumpers, hoodies or long sleeves polos. I can not stand them stretched. If the elastic goes, that is that item of clothing done for me. This has caused genuine rows with the gf when she wears my jumpers and rolls up the sleeves, stretching them out. Again, no idea why, but I am what I am.

Dear All,

I still lay out emails in the style of a letter. Call me old fashioned if you like but I’m old and weird.

Yours faithfully,

John.

Pap, the default avatar gives me an air of mystery…which doesn’t really work if you wander up to people and introduce yourself…so I’ll have a think about that one.

I am weird because I play the accordion.

If you’d have said Bandoneon I would have been impressed. :lou_wink:

I like to mess with people’s minds in supermarkets.

Occasionally I don’t put the divider between my shopping and other people’s, I just leave a gap.

Watching people panic about the thought of their shopping mixing with others is mildly amusing to me.

Is that a weird hobby?

Putting my phone on alarm and and when it goes off pretending to answer to it on the underground, people are thinking how the fuck does he get a reception on the tube.

That is genius, Rallyboy, I might try it myself.

This has led me to wondering how people would react if I placed a random item in their basket (when they leave it somewhere in an aisle). That could really freak them out.
