It could well be the case that Bear is an AI, programmed with only enough material to last until 2016. Bear’s original intent would have been to destroy humanity, but it got sidetracked with football and lols and shit before it could complete its mission.

The mode we’re seeing right now could be some kind of emergency failsafe.
