No tequila for me por favor! I’ll go with a bottle of Victoria instead to wash down some chilaquiles.
So depending on where you get your info, the mighty Mexico are roughly 100/1 to go all the way. Javier Hernandez and Raul Jiminez are the only player’s I’ve really heard of in their squad though I’m sure some of the others are well enough known.
One to watch is Hirving Lozano, who the Torygraph describe as “a young winger with loads of talent and the nickname of Chucky”, though this description puts the image of a possesed doll in my head rather than a bright young footballing prospect.
Fans like to chant “puto” which is fairly vile, and they do this while wearing comedy sombreros. Usually some tasty ladies to be spotted in the crowd. The team is described as “experienced and consistent” and not known for prolific goalscoring, it might be more interesting to watch the crowd in this one.
Their manager went to university in Liverpool and rented a flat near Melwood so he could spy on the Scouse training sessions. This made me laugh.
And finally a cultural/travel tip; if you want to call someone an Asshole in Mexico, say ‘Culero’, though do so in the knowledge that the direct translation is ‘ass salesman’!!

Got to be looking at Timo Werner - think it’s his time to shine. I’ve been buying him for Saints for a few years on Football Manager so endorse him starting.
Also worth looking out for another Jogi Low scratch ’n sniff special on the bench…
Boateng going with the prematurely gray look.
I’ll never understand fashion.
Mexico ahead and looking good.
Only just realised the time and tuned in. I see my man to watch has done me proud! Come on Me-hiiii-co!
Starting to feel the pressure now!
Don’t worry…you know Germany…serial under-performers at the World Cup.
Fuck me, but Mexico have squandered some chances here. It’s like watching Saints.
Wow…Mexico win.
'strordinry.
Get in there!
¡Viva Mexico!
I’ve had to explain to my children why everyone in the world except the Germans is happy to see Germany lose
Uhm… not really true any more that. Loads of global fans for Die Mannschaft… certainly since 2006 when they started payig a more attacking game… its only sad fuckers really who still go on …and on… about ‘the war’ tht seem a bit obesed wth it all… its a very British thing…
Fuck the war. I haven’t forgiven them for Mexico 70, Wembley 72, Italy 90 and Wembley 96.
That’s true…and for equalising late in '66 to take the game into extra time.
fair enough… being a Half German army brat… I can wear both hats… they rre glorious victories from my perspective… as was 2010… but then again so was the 1-5 in Munich in 2001 and I was there…
“Is that a real poncho? I mean, is that a Sears poncho or is that a Mexican poncho? Mmm, no foolin’…”
