London Hotels

My Mrs and I are having a few nights in the smoke without the kids to watch Six Days Of London at the Velodrome on the Olympic Park.

We want to book a “nice” hotel but the amount of choice is, frankly, boggling. I was rather hoping that some of our patrons could recommend somewhere?

DO NOT go anywhere near budget hotels in Kings Cross area!

Recently had three nights in an overpriced shithole but have now found some pretty decent deals on north side of Hyde Park for next trip.

I’m sure there are people who know London better than me but I was impressed with anywhere under £100 from a chain that I’d heard of.

Worth looking at apartments? That would be my preference.

We often do that and are doing that in Italy at 1/2 term. Think the Mrs wants a hotel this time though. A nice one, bodering on very nice one!

When we didn’t live here it was always budget and premier Inn. But once did Hilton in Surrey Quays area. It was pretty reasonable. Depends on your budget for “nice hotel” etc and where you want to stay.

Where - Anywhere really that has easy access to the tube.

Price - Up to £200 a night, maybe a wee bit more.

I’ve heard the Melia on the Strand is pretty nice. I had a look but may be a bit north of your budget but there is a The White House Melia in Regents Park that looks nice and in the budget. Radisson Blu hotels are pretty nice and the Radisson Blue Edwardian Hampshite Hotel looks good.

The Pelham near the Natural History museum is good

Personally I would go for one of these first two, but have listed a few I have stayed in.

Boutique: Ten Manchester Street, Marylebone. 45 rooms, high standard. Under £200 as long as you are booking ahead enough. Marylebone is a great area IMO.

OR The Pelham, South Kensington. Very stylish individual rooms.

Mainstream: Park Plaza, Westminster Bridge. Modern / new though pretty large and a lot of tourists. Not far from the London Eye if that suits.

OR Holiday Inn, Mayfair. Yes its a Holiday Inn, but its the best one and the main reason for choosing it is location: across the road from the Ritz, Green Park.

We stay at Amba Marble Arch, superb and near some great pubs. the Cumberland is also good so my wife says.

I’ve always enjoyed my stay at the London Bridge Hotel. Shard is next door, as is LB station and Borough Market down the road.

Apex Hotels are OK, they have a decent hotel at London Wall. The Kingsley at Holborn is very good.

One of my FB pals often posts deals

I always stay at the Kensington Close Hotel when I’m in London.

A really nice 4 Star establishment, that has recently undergone a £45 million refurbishment. Decent prices for the quality, food is very good, very nice spa area, lovely gardens, some great views over the city, and never had a room I was not happy with.

Staff have always been very friendly and helpful too.

I wouldn’t stay anywhere else, unless it was full (or full of skates).
