Mad Max : Fury Road. Will it leave Road Warrior in the dust?

Mad Max : Fury Road is out this weekend. Usually, I’d be spitting feathers about how the film industry is cooking up yet another movie from very old source material, especially given my love for Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior.

Things are a little different with this one though. The original director is still in the chair, there’s a commitment to physical stuntwork and most importantly, is getting well reviewed at the moment.

Doomsday, the Neil Jackson film, was a clear homage to Mad Max’s post apocalyptic vision. Apart from not having any Mel Gibson (arguably a good thing at present), this looks like the real deal. Will Fury Road leave the Road Warrior for dust?

I am v.up for this movie! Even the trailer gave me a boner! It looks like an old school 80s action movie, or as i read somewhere, the anti-ultron.

I’ve been a big fan of the Road Warrior for yonks, Bear. Been trying to get ms pap to watch it for years too, with no real luck. Suddenly, she gets the opportunity to see Tom Hardy strutting about in a film and she’s like “oh, ok, I’ll watch Mad Max 2”.

We watched it two nights ago.

Pitched for the console version of this back in 2010, got very close to landing it before the film was stalled. Also, longest gestating film in history, he’s spent about 15 years on it AND fucked off to get minted making Happy Feet in the middle.

Didn’t know you were up for that one. Shame it didn’t come off. Elite on wheels would have been cool.

Saw it after the Villa match, although only in 2D.

Bloody briiliant. Like Mad Max 2 but with a high budget. Forget all the feminist nonsense, go see it.

i went to see this and it was v.excellent!

My favourite thing about it was that no-one in the film knew martial arts. I fucking hate martial arts! When bros fight in Mad Max Movie, they just punch them in the face, in a straight-forward and manly fashion.

I dunno that I’ve seen the original mad max movies, I think I might have seen bout half of the first one, but I don’t remember much about it. I had assumed tho, that he was Mad as in angry, but it turns out he is Mad as in unhinged. Tom Hardy, who I am bit gay for, had him muttering and twitching etc like a mental patient, it was v.good. Charles Theron was also v.good. I didn’t notice any of the feminist agenda that I’ve been reading about tho, I dunno where that come from. Maybe the bit where Max failed 3 times to snipe a bro from 500 yds so Charles Theron had to come show him how to do it, but that made sense to me cos she is professional soldier, and he is just wandering lunatic.

I give this movie my top award, a full 3 bones!

Off to see this tonight. I’m going to return with a view.

I am back from the cinema after catching this. Whoa, what a rush. There really isn’t that much plot, but there doesn’t really need to be. The second movie didn’t have much of a plot either, and that was the best of the bunch until now. Basically, all you really need is a bunch of mad, fucked up shit and some decent car work and you’re golden. Fury Road has it in spades, and doesn’t really make the mis-steps that Beyond Thunderdome made.

If I had to guess, I’d say that Charlize Theron’s character is carrying the torch for women in this movie. She has a lot to do, and ends up creating a convincing female badass.
