Most Excellent Movie Scores

Surprised nobody has mentioned Frozen.

That’s had an impact on an entire generation.

In a similar vein, The Wizard of Oz, West Side Story, South Pacific, and of course THE GREATEST MOVIE SOUNDTRACK EVER

Stayin’ Alive…

Nor this one … which has to be The Bestest Ever.

I remember all the hype about the film, but too young to pass as an 18(16?) year old to watch it. Loads of shops in town were playing Tubular Bells as background music. After purchasing it we went back to my mates house in the evening, chilling over a few beers marvelling at how one man had played so many instruments and quietly soaking it all in, when suddenly about 20 mins in a voice booms out of the speakers … “On Grand Piano …”. Christ we collectively nearly shat ourselves it was so unexpected and scary!!

Watched The Exorcist on a VHS rental when I was 12. Holy shit it scared the hell out of me! I was used to Hammer Horror type movies at this point. Doctor Who was still a bit unsettling then tbh

Years later it was re-released at the cinema when I was at Film School, and I kept banging on about this incredible film. The effects though just looked a bit rubbish. The soundtrack is still great. The sound design is what makes it though. Friedkin recorded the sound of pigs being slaughtered etc.

Low budget movie directed by Richard Ayoade. It’s really great, in my opinion. He directed a few Arctic Monkeys promos.

Aimee Mann

Great and karaoke…

Got this on my to watch list, heard good things about it.

The thing about the Magnolia soundtrack is that it works so well in the film, but if I try and listen to Aimee Mann’s music by itself it just sounds like dull middle of the road stuff.

Phew, so I’m not the only one who mentioned Frozen.

Although (from experience) I have to say that IF someone gets up to try and sing Let one Go it is time to leave the bar.

Also agree on Interstellar - soundtrack absolutely makes the movie, and Tubular Bells - actually saw Mike Oldfield perform that live down in skatesville in the late 70’s.

Oh and Fatso? THIS is the only decent version of that song mate

Brilliant movie. Brilliant soundtrack by Orbital

Beg to differ GWC - didn’t live up to my expectations whenI saw it originally Saw it again on a flight last year, it hadn’t improved imho. Could have been so much better. Can’t remember the music tbf

No worries, I’ve not seen it for a while. Might check it out again and see if I still enjoy it. I’m a fan of Space/Horror though and the Orbital soundtrack makes for great tension.

I do like a good space Sci-fi yarn @gwc . Me and Mrs C_S saw it originally when it was first released (saw it at about 10am in NYC wasting time on a rainy day waiting time for a late flight back to London - we’d read some good reviews so thought what the hell…) wasn’t really conducive to enjoying it, but remembered some good bits so dived in when I saw it to watch again last summer.

As I said, it could have been so much more, that was the disappointment to be fair.

Wind River.

It was composed for the movie. She was PT Anderson’s girlfriend at the time, the script was written around her album.
