📽 Films I have seen

Watched the new Independence Day film.

It’s better than the original. The film is resolved in a better way than Jeff Goldblum uploading a fucking computer virus into the alien mothership.

The twenty year gap probably helps a lot as well. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still in parts, a load of globetrotting sentimental crap, but it’s not as crap as the first film.

Eight Days A Week - a great slice of nostalgia. I was 6 when the 60s started and 16 when they ended so I did my “proper” growing up in the 70s but it was great to see those clips again of more innocent times. Although I say innocent, Ron Howard carefully deals with the backdrop of racial issues in America, JFKs assassination and the Vietnam War, so not really so innocent I suppose. The 60s was the birthing pool of the “modern world” but as a stand alone decade it was an amazing period full of so much artistic creativity and social change. You didnt get the keys to the door until you were 21. Childhood seemed to go on forever. Now you are barely out of nappies before you are catapulted into the adult world. Best moment for me was George Harrison using John Lennon’s hair as an ashtray. Happy days.

Scanning through Netflix last night I came across ‘Europa Report’, I’d never heard of it but because I like a bit of Sci-Fi and it has Sharlto Copley in it I thought it might be worth a watch. It’s essentially a ‘found footage/documentary’ of a exploration mission to Jupiter. Sadly it wasn’t particularly thrilling and had a weak plot that wasn’t helped by fluctuating standards of special effects, some really good, some pretty shit (maybe they ran out of budget like Superman IV did). A valiant effort from a small film studio but ultimately I would not recommend.

Just watched ‘Her’ with Joaquin Phoenix.

What a very good actor he is.

Engaging film with some interesting scifi ideas.

I give it 3.5 hooves.

Watched Shelter (2010) or 6 Souls (US title) the other week. It’s a super natural horror. So quite ridiculous. It was OK but not great.

Just watched Room. Wow how good that was! The little boy was such a good actor. Not the cheeriest of Sunday afternoon viewing.

Re-watched The Prestige last night with my eldest. Needless to say I had to explain some of what happened to him at the end, but man I love that film.

Agreed. Such a good film. Even with Michael Caine in it.

Saw The Girl On The Train today. Emily Blunt puts in a shift but it was generally disappointing.

Watched Spy. Melissa McCarthy being fat and a heroine

Pretty much all she ever does. Kind of wastes Jude Law & Jason Statham…

But then annoyingly it brought a wry smile to my face at times & even one laugh.

To be honest, it is risible fare BUT Jason Statham over acting & playing a Twat did become amusing.

1/10 but would pass the time on a flight to Italy better than playing Lotto

… sometimes no words are needed… :lou_surprised:

Just watched this now and agree with all the above.

It’s an excellent movie, very enjoyable

Just watched Spotlight which is about Boston Globe newspaper investigate Catholic priests abusing kids and the Catholic Church covering it up.

It won a few awards. Really well done. makes you angry that they did and likely still are getting away with it.

The Fugitive has been getting some reruns of late down here.

Forgot just how good it was, Tommy Lee Jones best role?

The wintry feel to it gave it such an atmosphere, just felt the baddie was a bit too soap opera villainesque, but apart from that excellent

Caught The Girl on the Train yesterday - it was fine. It was a bit like a feature-length episode of Eastenders but with prettier people, but Emily Blunt was great as a character struggling with alcoholism. Probably one to wait for on DVD if i’m honest.

It’s quite a lean time for movies unfortunately. That’s smaller independant films etc. :slight_frown:

Funnily enough I saw Emily Blunt on the train today, she did mention that you put in a shift but were disappointing :slight_frown:

Sorry

Watched Trumbo today. Bryan Cranston was pretty good in the lead role. Another one that made me angry. Ridiculous witch-hunt for “commies”.
