Some interesting ones there, and some grey areas for different refs to confuse us with - one man’s genuine attempt for the ball is another man’s thinly-disguised professional foul.

I can see Motson ignoring all changes and sticking to the state of play in his 1974 Rothmans annual, and I can also imagine that a few fans around us will need to be advised that life has moved on.

How long before someone starts baying for a red card when it doesn’t meet the new criteria?

What I would really like them to do is simplify the handball rule, if it hits your “hand” and you gain an advantage it’s a foul no matter what!! This deliberate handball rubbish is just that…

Football rules and regs D_P, football!!

Agreed - and I’m pretty sure that is how the laws used to be, or certainly how they were applied. I remember that deliberate handball was a bookable offence, whilst inadvertent handball was an offence but not bookable. Which always struck me as entirely sensible.

Obstruction needs sorting - shepparding the ball out of play when you have no intention of playing it, defenders standing with the arms spread out to prevent strikers moving in the box, shirt pulling

I see "shirt-pulling in the penalty area can now be interpreted as a “friendly cuddle”. Nice to know where we stand on that one. :lou_lol:

I also see a corner kick can be taken anywhere within 5 yards of the corner flag as modern footballers are incapable of taking the kick within the confines of the fuckin great quadrant marked on the pitch.

There is no need for a shirt pull under any circumstances - it should be a yellow card.

Ditto the headlock at corners.

And an early shower for shirt lifting?

I’ve been saying that for years.

Let’s face it most fouls are not made with the intent of actually committing a foul, but advantage has been gained by taking out the other player … free kick.

Further to what Eric said. :lou_facepalm_2: if it hits your hand its a foul regardless of intent and hand is anywhere from the sholder down to the tips of the fingers.

Proper rules for proper football

So wouldn’t that make aiming for the hand rather than the goal more productive? This is total bollocks if you take away that a ball driven from 3 feet away gives you no chance to get your hand in or out of the way…reflexes don’t work that quickly. There is and always should be an area of discretion on handballs…just “clearly defined areas of doubt and uncertainty”
