New Guardian exposé of tax avoidance

Well some of these chaps were ground workers earning a fairly low wage - they had to employ an accountant cos they needed help with the returns.

I not disputing the fairness of the situation, only one of Barry’s assertions that you average Paye workers is supposedly some uber patriot because they cannot avoid tax.

tis all.

I’d go along with that, maybe I was arguing a different point. Time for a nap this is all getting too much.

Because in irony most right wingers and patriots love flying the flag but in the same time don’t fund the UK NHS system and subvert the rules on paying said taxes in Great Britain, they aren’t being a patriot in avoiding taxes.

Were they PAYE or self employed?

And as if by magic

I pay the tax that I legally have to .

Yawning gap between legally and morally. Having the money to divert money away from where it should go isn’t commendable, imagine if we all did that?

I expect many of of us have paid cash in hand to avoid VAT?

Just me then.

:lou_facepalm_2:

Ahhhh…that’s why they do that! I never knew that. :lou_wink_2:

You’re not seriously comparing the two to justify this are you? What next comparisons to duty free and buying a watch abroad?

If you’re trying to claim you’ve never paid a lower price for cash for anything in your life you’re a bullshitter Baz. As for duty free, why do people buy hundreds of fags at a time when they’re on holiday? It’s because the price is cheaper, it’s cheaper because there’s no duty on it. They’re using a legal way of keeping more cash in their pocket and out of the Revenues hands.

It appears to me from your statement that you approve of some tax avoidance but not others. I presume your approval is based on monetary value of the avoidance. Lord Ashcroft is deeply immoral because he avoids millions of pounds of tax, whereas Baz Sanchez is not because he only avoids the duty on a few fags. If I nick 50p out your wallet, I’m a theif. Just because I’m not a part of the Hatton Garden mob doesn’t change that fact. You can’t make moral judgements based on monetary value, it’s either right or wrong.

It is not just the principle (which isnt quite the same, tax avoidance is not illegal whereas VAT fraud is) but how much do you think it costs the treasury every year? Maybe not billions but still a reasonable amount I would wager.

They’re two seperate issues, you can argue about the working mans avoidance and evasion of tax by all means but don’t compare them to this, they’re totally different in scale and cost.

Now if the loopholes and avoidance schemes were open to all regardless of money then you could compare but you can’t, I don’t need you to tell me what is illegal or not, how about morally bankrupt?

I have been morally bankrupt since I was eighteen.

Fuck me, you’re all over the place on this.

Your morals are set by a monetary value, what a strange view. What is the Bazza “price” perhaps you can let us know, what is the monetary amount when your morals change, £100, £1,000,£10,000, million, billion. What is your moral compass worth?

You probably thought transportation was justifed, my view to punishment and temptation is aligned to money of course it is, what are you saying, you approve of tax avoidance?

It’s come to this - Bazza making Duckie sound like the voice of reason.

Yes I do approve of tax avoidance, who wouldn’t? Only a moron would pay more tax than they’re legally obligated to. My pension is deducted at gross, saving me tax. My share plan similar. When I smoked and went abroad I bought months worth of fags, saving money. I will limit my inheritance tax liabilities when I need to.

The way I look at it is this. The revenue are very black and white . They chase me for every penny they’re entitled to. They dot every i and cross every t. All I’m doing is following their example. If I give my kids money and survive 7 years, they owe fuck all. If the inland revenue didn’t want me doing that, they could change the rules. Rules are rules and people shouldn’t be criticised by virtue signallers for following them

Transportation was justified.

How else can we wind up the Aussie’s by just saying your great grandad was a bread thief.
