New Year's Revolutions (sic)

OK, so I’ve decided that I’m going to get down to 15 stone. Never been a fan of setting weight goals, hadn’t weighed

I keep myself pretty fit for an old big bloke, but I’ve never been a fan of setting weight goals. I hadn’t weighed myself for a couple of years before doing so on Xmas morning. I was then 15 1/2 stone. Probably more than that now given Xmas festivities, so I’ve probably got 10lbs or so to shift.

I’ll keep you all posted with monthly weigh-ins (unless I get bored, stop or actually put weight on then you’ll never hear about this again).

What goals have you set yourselves, Sotonians?

How about you Fatstuff?

* Revolutions, because we never stick to them, right?

I could do with shedding a stone, been eating sensibly for a couple of days.

Also my wife has suggested I try being less scathing of people.

Not sure that’s gonna happen.

Other than that I have no vices so there is little to give up.

Nooo, RB! Scathing is good! We like more scathing!

Well, with the imminent call to come and play 5-a-side footy with my decrepit band of soon-to-be-heart-attack-victims, I’m going to do my bit for you.

Send my sincere apologies to Mrs Raleighboy, and explain that there is little I can do about the scathing thing.

Tell her I believe it to be genetic.

P.S. The Flyd Owl plans to play in Chelsea boots.

Big plans… to regain lost youth and lose about 20kg… eat better, drink less and cycle more. The old me is still there, I just fucking ate him :lou_surprised:

I always make resolutions, but then I forget to do anything about them! So this year I’m going to make No New Years Resolutions.

They are:

Get a New Job: no point making this as will be out of my hands! I’ll be getting a new job regardless!

Get fit: no point making this as I never do it anyway!

Go travelling: no point making this as I’m doing it anyway!

Be less self critical: no point making this as when I come back from the States I’ll be such an arrogant arse and up my own bum, that the opposite will be necessary!

For once my fate is in the lap of the gods, which means I can be lazy and do eff all! Feels great!

This time last year I took stock of my weight. I was the heaviest I’d ever been 14st 2lbs (200lbs on my scales) at a time of life when your weight normally piles on due to less exercise. I’ve always been fit and active but you take your eye off the ball and all of a sudden…200lbs.

We’d booked a Caribbean cruise for March and it being a sunshine holiday I didn’t want to appear a beached whale ready for refloating. I set a target of 13st 2lbs which was my weight when I got married 35 year ago…a stone to lose in 2 months.

It seems a lot in 8 weeks but 16 divided by 8 is just 2lbs a week. By the time the cruise arrived I’d lost 20lbs. How? Well it might not be practical for everyone but the major step was to eat our main meal at the middle of the day. Breakfast yes…porridge and fruit juice…never miss breakfast. Nothing special about the midday meal…just the normal stuff. Get rid of biscuits and fatty snacks and substitute with fruit. If you want something later in the day have a piece of fruit.

Exercise…I have a dog who gets 2 walks a day which totals 7 miles…you won’t lose weight by taking no exercise and unfortunately, for a lot of you, you won’t lose weight without cutting down on alcohol.

Good luck. :lou_smiley:

Mrs SOG and her mates in the village are setting up a slimming club which I have been volunteered into. I left work a while back and have put on a whole stone since from 14st to 15st so my target is to get to below 14st. I dont really eat too much but do drink too much so cutting down on the booze will help (if I can do it). I do need to exercise more but have atrial fibrillation so the gym is out. Will try and cycle more but that is dangerous on the local country roads. I do need to do this, it is just getting started thats the problem!

I’m back in training again after a couple of years off of running. Signed up for the Brighton marathon in April.

I think I might start smoking crack this year.

One thing I’m definitely not cutting back on is booze! I’ve decided it’s good for me so will probably drink more this year.

Just tell me the place and the time and I’ll be there, complete with Chelsea boots. As long as I can get there in time from Farnborough (normally finish work at 5:30pm or 6pm), that is. Just don’t expect me to be any good.

Like others on here I could certainly shed a few pounds. Well, more like a stone really. A few years back I used to cycle a lot, but that was largely because I cycled to work; with my current 33-mile trip each way that’s hardly a possibility now. So getting more exercise than just walking the dog every morning (not a euphemism) seems like a pretty decent idea.

Nearly 16 stone (again) been here before a couple of times and then back to 13.5 when the cycling kicks in. So same again then.

I fucking love food!

You’ll be in good company, Folly.

I’m trying to book Fleming Park but their online booking means I can only book 7 days in advance, so I will probably have to take whatever slot I can get

I’m thinking probably a Monday or Tuesday, and probably around 7pm - which means beers at about 8:02pm (depending how long it takes to get to the bar).

Oddly enough, I think I might start stroking crack this year

Thi is indeed my nemesis - that and fine wines and beer. I cycled just under 5000km last year and climbed over 50,000m - yet still put on weight…although mainly since September when I broke ribs etc and then these lst two weeks. Weigh this morning tod a bad bad tale of wanton excess and fat fuckness… It’s salad for tea (which is a cunt) - have put all beer out of arms reach in the cellar, and Turbo trainier is set up in the back porch… I have 20 weeks to lose 20kg so taht I am not a fat fucker when cycling in France in May - then also want to see if I can lose abother 8kg or so to get back to the weight I was when I got married back in '96… a tall order but its now or never… bring on the fucking lettuce and bananas :lou_angry:
